I met a brazilian guitar player in Paris who had played a few hours with
Baden's guitar in the late 70s and he told me it was a Di Giorgio... but I
guess he had a a guitar made for him only...
Anyway the saddest point is that even if I had his guitar I could never make
it sound like he used to...

Not only that, but in Dominique Dreyfuss' biography of Baden she
mentions more than once Baden's capacity of getting the most marvelous
sound in a bar from a guitar that was hanging on the wall minutes ago,
supposed to be a piece of decoration and not an actual instrument to
play. So I guess the specific guitar never mattered much to him.

Dominique Dreyfus: 'O Violão Vadio de Baden Powell' (Editora 34)

This book came out in the Coleção Todos os Cantos, whose managing editor
is Tárik de Souza.

Strange that this information would not be readily available.

Dorival Caymmi's famous autograph-covered guitar is a Di Giorgio.

Everybody knows that João Gilberto plays a special Di Giorgio with an
oval sound hole.

Recently I saw an old photo of the vocal/instrumental group Anjos do
Inferno (who had many Caymmi hits in the 1940s); surprisingly, all their
guitarists used identical instruments with oval sound holes.

Hi Paul,

The back of "Felicidade" (1983) says "Baden Powell plays Hopf guitars" ...
i.e. Dieter Hopf ... have a look at
http://www.konzertgitarren.de/hopf/index.htm

all the best,

Jonathan

When I was with Baden in the 70ties, he used to play a Hopf Guitar made by
Dieter Hopf (near Frankfurt) which he got free against use of his name for
promotion..
