Since splitting hairs was appropriately brought up here, I thought I'd
offer a humble suggestion to bring back the music subject to the group.
Here are the words to Francis Hime and Chico Buarque's classic tune
"Trocando em Miúdos" (Splitting Hairs). There'll be lots of things to
pick on and split hairs, e.g., what Pixinguinha record could they be
talking about, etc. The English translation is by Julie Sayres.

Trocando em miúdos
Francis Hime - Chico Buarque/1978

Eu vou lhe deixar a medida do Bonfim
Não me valeu
As nossas melhores lembranças

Splitting Hairs (translation by Julie Sayres)

I'll leave you the good-luck charm
It didn't work for me
But I'll keep the Pixinguinha album, okay?
The rest is yours.

Since we're splitting hairs, you can keep
The left-over of everything that's called a home
The shadows of everything we were
The marks of love upon our sheets
Our best memories

That hope of everything working out
You can forget it
You can pawn that ring
Or melt it down
But I must say that I will not give you
The enormous pleasure of seeing me cry
Nor will I make you pay for the damage
My heart so torn apart

By the way, accept some help from your future love
For the rent
Give me back the Neruda that you took
And never read
I shut the gate without a sound
I take all my I.D. papers
One last drink, so much longing
And the vague impression that I'm leaving too late

Why am I not surprised you are the one splitting hairs! If you go back
to my note you'll see that I was quoting someone else's translation. So,
please, next time do not write "egidio wrote." It'd be more accurate
(and splitting hairs) to say "Egidio quoted." Thanks.

the translator's name by mistake. Sorry about that.
