The video I saw this movie on listed the composer as Chico Buarque, but
this couldn't have been him singing the opening song. Was it?

The title is "O Que Será" (aka "a Flor da Terra" and "A Flor da Pele"), and I
don't remember whether Chico Buarque sings it in the film, but there's a famous
recording where Chico and Milton Nascimento sing together.

Thanks. My guess is that it's Maria Bethania singing it. It's a woman
singing, in any case, and she has more than one CD with that song on it.
Thanks again.

The singer in the soundtrack is none other than Simone. The song is also
on her 'Face a Face' album. For her complete discogrphy, newspaper
articles, etc., please check:

Actually, that's Simone singing the theme in the movie. She has another
version that was recorded separately for one of her records. Much of the rest
of the incidental music in the film was composed by Francis Hime..and very nice
it is, indeed
