In case you folks haven't heard Leo Fagin, the man who operates Leo
Records out of his flat in London, is in a bad way financially. You can
read the latest issues of WIRE or OPTION for the whole story (Fagin
wrote to those magazines' letters pages), but the crux of it all is
that the failing of the New Music Distribution Service in the US has
left Fagin in debt to the point where the bank is threatening to
repossess his flat. Fagin points out that if everyone who intended to
buy one of his records did so *now* he might be able to avoid going
homeless.

Sounds reasonable to me, especially since there is about $75 worth of material
(on vinyl and CD) that I've been salivating over for months. So I am
urging you to check out the Cadence catalogue under Leo and see if that
doesn't interest you. For all the help he's done the jazz community
Leo Fagin deserves what help we can give him.

That's all about that.

Personal to Bill Hsu and Sandeep, please give me a call at (908)247-7754,
I have been unable to get any mail to either of you. Bill, I've got
your tape, but I need some info before I send it.

Thanks all,

Gary Parker Chapin

This is where I chip in. I have been trying to get hold of the latest
issue of WIRE to get access to the 'reduced subscription rate for
US subscribers and a free CD from the GRP label' (blech! the Nov. issue
was offering stuff from Dolphy/Lacy/Chaloff/Ricky Ford on the Candid
label!). There doesn't seem to be any place on this silly island (LI)
where I can get hold of it, and the last time I went in to Manhattan
(to catch Haden's LMO) I couldn't fit it in.... Could you (or Sandeep,
since he had mentioned the relevant four-letter word in one of his
postings) post the details of this offer so that I can send off my
$50/$40 or whatever to Units G & H? Thanks a lot.

I don't have a copy of this fabled Cadence catalog, but isn't he the
guy who brings out all the Russian jazz that's been coming out, like
the Ganelin Trio? Somebody mentioned a NY Times article (yes, don't
choke!) reviewing a boxed set of some Soviet avant-garde jazz, and
quite favorably too. Does some netter have more to offer?

So maybe this is the time for me to drop Cadence a line, and get hold
of their catalog.

you should be able to get it @ Tower Books. anyway WIRE is at:

WIRE
Units G & H
115 Cleveland Street
London, W1P 5PN
England
tel: + 071-580-7522

you can call and get your sub. they accept AmEx etc.

While Cadence may be the easiest way to get Leo vinyl in the States,
I would urge buying it directly from Leo Feigin. That means the money
goes straight into his pocket and hopefully keeps him off the street.

write:
Leo Feigin
7 Clare Court
Judd Street
London, WC1
England

all vinyl is 4 (UK) pounds each, double LPs 8 pounds, overseas shipping
is 1 pound per album. I think you can send checks.

I just got my new WAYSIDE MUSIC catalog and it appears that
they are selling back issues of WIRE. Prices climb from $1
for issues #14-17 to $4.50 for #77-81. The catalog lists
the highlights of each issue.

Write them at
P.O.Box 6517
