Prince claims they did, just the fact Miles played at Paisley on New Years
eve in 87 is a strong possibility they recorded together.
Prince often records in the wee small hours,it would not surprise me.
Also recently Prince has made refrence to a recording session between
the two, also stating that he would ask permission from Miles estate before
he released the compositions.(this was from a very recent interview).
Mark
No,they did not appear together the song was
sent to Miles who did his part. I have asked about Miles and Prince together in
the studio on alt.music.prince.
People who have worked for Prince say they
have heard about a collaboration between the two in the studio. Also it stands
that Prince may
have had Miles improvise at his studio and then Prince would combine the
trumpet into compositions he already had.Sort of like Natalie Cole did with her
father's work.
Prince has stated in a few interviews that he will release these compositions
in the very near future
Mark
heard it. bootlegged as the "crucial" album. for very serious miles & prince
collectors only. not a patch on doo-bop.
Can anyone translate this? Does "serious.. collectors" mean the music is
uncompromising or that it is lousy? What does patch mean in this context?
What is a fake boot? What does the last sentence mean?
Simon Weil
You're pretty good at translating the jive, Simon. We should make you the head
jive-ASS (laughing.........) yuk...yuk....nyuk...chuckle....
Anyway, if you believe Prince has some Miles tapes, then you fell for this jive,
hook, line and sinker. Unless Prince is going to sample "Purple Rain" over it
as background jive....
happy neu year,

>>"Crucial" is a famous bootleg session from his vaults, but the "Miles" in question on this particular bootleg is Atlanta Bliss, Prince's trumpet player during his Lovesexy tour. Bliss copied him on purpose. Miles and Prince did work together on a limited basis and admired each other. Miles and Prince worked on "Sticky Wicked" for Chaka Khan and Prince gave Miles "Movie Star", which has appeared on one Miles live boot, name forgotten, and The Artist's recent Crystal Ball in his original demo. He also gave Miles "Chocolate", which ended up being used by The Time, in their "Graffiti Bridge" fake reunion (Prince is The Time) album "Pandemonium". He wanted to give him "18 (r u legal yet?), a tune that became part of the unreleased but oft booted "Madhouse 24" Cd. Madhouse was a jazz group that served a another of Prince's pseudonyms. I have heard that this appears on Miles' "Black devil" bootleg in some version.
Prince would have served the same function as Marcus Miller had
these two worked together. It was during this "Tutu" time that the two
did sme tape swapping. Most of their work was done by swapping tapes,
which is how Prince prefers to give songs to other artists. Prince
recorded all of these guide tracks, sent them to Miles and Miles could
dub his horn over the existing track. Not really sessions together in
the studio. Prince reportedly cut a long tribute tune called "Miles D"
when Miles passed, which has not been confirmed.
Basically, the two wanted to work together but Prince's busy schedule
prevented anything substantial. The two have talked about their mutual
work/admiration in many interviews. If anything new came out from The
Artist, it would be him laying backing tracks for existing solos in the
can at the Miles estate.
That's all I know and I've been following Prince since 1979.
JJ
I didn't say you were lying, but do you believe everything Prince says?

>Why is it so hard to believe Prince and miles made a session album together??
Why is it so important? There's so much great Miles stuff that already exists
out there to listen to and explore. Is the omission of this (if it exists)
really that important? I'd be more interested in Sony's remastering of Miles'
catalog than any "pop experiment" he might have done with Prince.

>I really find this funny. Miles even was at paisley
>park...hes done "penetration and movie star" I mean its not that far off to
>believe this Do u think Prince all he had was Purple rain??
I'm not saying he isn't talented, I just don't think he's all that significant
in the jazz scheme of things.
Let me ask you something, if Miles made a forgotten recording with Benny Goodman
and Harry James 40 years ago that suddenly came to light, would you be just as
interested? Or is it only with the *hip* 80s/90s pop stars that you're
interested in?

>Listen Miles
>has gone on record sayin "prince is the best musician Ive ever played with"
And he had good things to say about Harry James too.

> Its not a joke hes the real deal Hes a serious musician . With alot big
>misconceptions about him. Sure hes inconsistent but I still am willing to
>check out what hes doing.
That's nice, but I'd be more interested in checking out what Vanity is up to.
She's more my speed....(laughing...) :^)
have a safe new year,

George , why is it so hard to believe that prince and mile recorded?
Prince has the studio and I'vwe hard from Mile's own mouth(via VH-1) that he's

I'm down with you Hassassin!
Miles and Prince is heard on the Bootleg version of "Can I Play With
You?"(As "Red Riding Hood") plus there is a short Private recorded dub on
Prince's "Driving To Midnight Mees" (a Boot too). On this 2 CD set there is
a short version of "It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night" from Paisley Park. Dec.
31. 1987

I could care less whether Miles recorded with Prince or not. But just how
important is it in the whole scheme of things? Why not just appreciate what HAS
been released in Miles' vast catalog, and not with what trivialities haven't
been?

So what? Big deal. What the hell does a pop star like Prince got to do with
jazz, anyway? Go back and read what I've posted eariler on this thread. You
obviously haven't read it all.
