That would explain Kei Akagi (Miles Davis), Ryo Kawasaki (Sonny Rollins),
and Akira Tana (anybody lucky enough to hire him including Manhattan
Transfer and Kenny Barron).
So much for your expertise on other cultures. Shoot, you're not even very
good at your own.
Of course you can say the same about white american jazz musicians and all
european ones. *irony* And if you deny them having any culture, maybe you
should just read the liner notes of Kind of Blue. By the way, if there are
any immitators like trumpet player Toshinori Kondo (immitating Miles), they
are better than the american immitators such as Wynton Marsalis (trying to
immitate Miles).

Quite apart from prejudging someone's ability to play based on their
ethnic origin, I'm not sure that shopping for music based on wardrobe
similarities is such a good idea either.
That said, you may be thinking of guitarist Kazumi Watanabe, a sharp
dresser and a hell of a guitar player albeit in the fusion realm.
Check out Mobo 1 & 2 (on a single cd), with a killer version of
Jimmy Smith's Walk Don't Run. Also features Sly and Robbie.
