This is actually the first time in at least six months that I've had an
opportunity to listen to the radio on a Sunday afternoon, so I guess I was
going on slim evidence.

None who've been around Chicago radio as long as he has.

Don't know if he's still around but, in my estimation, Mike Rapchak
was the best when we lived in the Chicago area.

Rapchak lost a Saturday night gig he'd had for several years on WGN, and is
no longer in Chicago area radio afaik. BTW, Rapchak, Buckley, and Joe
Segal are the founding (and self-proclaimed only members) of the Abe
Lincoln Fan Club. Of course that's not true as long as I'm breathing.
They just don't know I exist.

I think you can send him an email at www.wbez.org
From the WBEZ web pages:
<Dick Buckley, Host, Jazz Programming
Dick has been hosting a jazz program on WBEZ since 1977. In the early eighties
he also hosted a jazz program at the former WXFM.
Before joining WBEZ, Dick worked at WAIT playing "the world's most beautiful
music." Prior to that position he spent ten years working at two stations, WNIB
and WAAF, with jazz shows at both. Dick has also been a staff announcer and was
Granz's Midwest promotional person. >

I can remember as a kid in the late 'fifties listening to his jazz radio
shows, one of which was called "Waxing Hot." He wasn't the hippest, but he
knew what he liked and presented it with authority. He has an encyclopedic
knowledge of big-band discography -- Ellington, Herman, Basie, et al.
