Can anyone out there tell me who wrote Li'l Darlin' and tell me where I can
purchase the sheet music to this song?
I have tried everywhere.

Any and all responses are appreciated.

Isn't that a Neal Hefti chart?

Bobby Darin sang it as DON'T DREAM OF ANYBODY BUT ME. Very 2nd rate
lyrics compared to say LH&R version.--

It's by Neal Hefti and I think the first recorded version is on the
utterly wonderful Count Basie "Atomic" album which Hefti wrote/arranged.

I have a piano reduction in a book called "Neal Hefti Originals for
Piano" but it's probably out of print now.

I'm pretty sure that it's included in one of the popular fake books, but
I can't remember which one.

Ella also sang these lyrics on her album arranged by Gerald Wilson.

Li'l Darling was written by Neil Hefti and arranged by him for the Basie
band in 1957.

You can probably find the sheet music in one of those fake books, you know
something like "The greatest Jazz Standards of the last 50 years"...

It's an easy tune to hear anyway. Just try.

Neil Hefti wrote it in 1957. If you mail your adress I will send you a copy of
the lead sheet - in real book-format :-)

This could be easier than to write down the chords...

I suggest you call your local music store that had a NOTE STATION computer
on the floor. The NOTE STATION allows you to search music by title,
arranger, composer etc. Once you find your selection the computer
downloads the music and prints in the key of your choice on the spot.
Give a try.
thanks

Lil Darlin' was just reissued in its original form, with the Basie Band.
It's THE ATOMIC BASIE album, originally on Roulette. It's a Neil Hefti
original, as were most of the arrangements on that album, one of the truly
great big band jazz albums of all time. Every cut's a gem.
