Hi folks. About a week ago, I saw something on T.V. that really made me
cringe. It was one of those "Romantic moods", "Mellow Love", "Music to Relax
to", "Smooth Moments", yadda yadda crap collection commercials pitching the
work of folks like Gomer Pile (I don't remember his name) and Andy Griffith -
or those stupid "Piano by Candlelight" types of compilations.

Anyway - I was doing whatever and half-paying-attention when I was ripped
out of my routine at the announcer-guy's mentioning Miles Davis. YES - Davis
was being pitched on one of these commercials! What the hell? Has anyone
seen this commercial?

I guess I had always just assumed that once you've made it - much less
become a legend - died - and once your name has come to represent an ENTIRE
genre of music (I submit "non" jazz fans' immediate recognition of his name as
being some proof of this) - that you would be above this type of thing.

Did something major happen lately with copyright or estate or legal stuff?
Just wondering about this as I would NEVER have imagined it. I mean -
whoever sees Billy Joel or Michael Jackson or Bill Evans or Elvin Jones being
advertised on t.v. "for three payments of only $19.95......"? Oh well -
later.
