"Miles", the Miles Davis autobiography. Fascinating from beginning to
end."
Garth ruminates:
"Should I... Oh God! Please don't tempt me!.... We don't need this
thread again.... I WILL be strong... my resolution for 1996.... no
more Miles Plagiarism threads.... so... I WILL take a drink of
champagne left over from last night, and go to bed.... I WILL resist..
I am strong.... I CAN do it!"

Milestones I and II by Jack Chambers
Penguin Jazz Guide, 2nd edition.
Hard Bop by David Rosenthal
Four Lives in the Bebop Business by A.B. Spellman
Keith Jarrett by Ian Carr
Good music non-jazz book: Hit Men by Frederic Dannen
Does anybody know Carr's Miles book from 1982?
Piazza, Tom (1995). The Guide to Classic Recorded Jazz.
Iowa City: University of Iowa Press. The author picks out the best
CDs of the most of the jazz greats between 1920 and 1970. Some of his
opinions vary dramatically from the Penguin Guide and I find are more
in keeping with mine.
Litweiller, John. (1994). Ornette Coleman: A Harmolodie Life.
New York: DeCapo Press. A great book for Coleman fans.

Yes. It's long on the music and short on personal anecdotes - Ian Carr has
certainly spent a *lot* of time listening to Miles' records. There are a
handful of solo transcriptions at the back and a pretty good discography.
Worth reading if you can find it.
