Hi, I'm rather young (only 20 years old) but in the last few months
I've become a big fan of 1940's and 1950's era jazz. My favorite
performers of that era are Miles, Coltrane, Parker, Gillespie, Oscar
Peterson, Chet Baker. As for singers, some of my favorites include
Anita O'Day, June Christy, Peggy Lee, Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald
and Sarah Vaughan. And although some may not consider him jazz, I also
like Frank Sinatra.

Great stuff! You should check out the albums that Annie Ross did in
the late 50's/early 60's ... her version of "Love For Sale" is
definitive (for me anyway). If you can find the 50's Gil Melle stuff I
think you'd dig it.

well.. this is good news,a young jazz fan!...I was beginning to come
to terms with a shrinking audience for jazz,I've indoctrinated as many
younger people as I could get to listen on the subject ..the main
thrust of my efforts has been to persuade those who will listen ,that
missing out on Jazz would leave a sad and gaping hole in their life
experience,I started at the behest of a neighbour,at around 14
y.oa.,In the 1940's...You seem to be on the right trail with the
artists you mention,I would advise visits to your local library,never
make a judgement at first hearing,some music ,which at first you may
not enjoy, can, as you listen and learn become particular
favourites...don't settle on the 40's &50's..go back a bit,some of
the greatest jazz men and women,Ellington,Armstrong,Tatum,
Bechet,Holiday,Morton,Ma Rainey,King Oliver and so many others,are
from the 20's and 30's,I share your liking for Sinatra but do try to
hear Joe Williams with the Basie Band "The Greatest "(the album
title)..I could go on for hours but bed beckons,Keep writing.. I'll
come back to the subject many times,cheers ..willie
