I'm new to this newsgroup, so this has probably been asked and
answered many times. The query about "old" jazz reminded me that in
the mid- to late-70's I used to listen to a program on WQED, the
educational FM station in Pittsburgh, that was a rebroadcast of a
program out of Boston (WGBH?) called "Jazz Decades". It featured many
very early recordings. I moved to NYC about 10 years ago, and
although there are at least two stations offering jazz, including
WBGO, a listener-sponsored station out of Newark, I haven't been able
to find the program anywhere. I realize that the program has probably
been discontinued, but occasionally somebody somewhere might decide to
rebroadcast archived tapes. Anybody have any info? Thanks.

Not too much help to you in NYC, but Ray Smith's show "The Jazz Decades" is
still alive and kicking on WGBH. He's on in Boston Sunday nights at 6:30 PM.
I listen to it every week while driving into my Sunday night house gig.

You might be able to call the station and ask for a list of outlets that still
carry it. Area code 617 directory assistance will have the number.

BTW, Ray is a drummer and performs with Dixieland/trad jazz outfits here in New
England.
