He recorded with Muddy Waters at one time, I think the album was
Pschedelic Mud, but it has sort have been forgotten. It wasn't included
in the box sets that have been issued on Muddy Waters.
I have heard he did play with Gene Ammons in Chicago, but have never
heard of anything on record.
The only thing I know of is with Miles. There are some video boots
floating around with him and Miles and David Liebeman.
The last time I heard of him playing in Chicago was in 1988, he did two
concerts at the Southend Musicworks.

"Psychedelic Mud" hasn't entered my mind for at least 25 years,
but I still remember that great centerfold picture of Muddy
on the cover, wearing a long white robe. Hilarious.
=======If you like the above two, you'll want Dark Magus. It's similar
in style and drive.
As for Cosey, I know of one lp he did (which I can't think of the name),
which was very lame and not at all like his guitar on Mile's records.
Then, I believe he (or Reggie Lucas) plays guitar on an OK Norman Connors
lp on Buddah or an affiliate. Used bins used to have dozens of copies
of this one. Several cuts are worth the 2-3 bucks you may pay for it.

Are you (or the original poster) confusing this with Muddy Waters'
ELECTRIC MUD (it has the foldout picture of him in a long white robe)?
For over two decades I've wondered who played on ELECTRIC MUD besides
Muddy himself; my copy was missing the booklet of liner notes that was
supposed to be included with it. Did this really feature Pete Cosey?
Any info would be appreciated -- better late than never, I guess.

You might be right. I just got this title from someone else, and have
never heard it. but it did have Pete Cosey on it.

Yes, he recorded one track with Herbie Hancock on a Laswell produced project ,
but it's not nearly as interesting as Cosey's work with Miles.
He's found on the title track from Hancock's Future Shock lp, from 1983.
I think the track has vocals...
Not sure whether Cosey is prominent or even on Dark Magus offhand, but my
recollection is that it is essentially the same band, a bit earlier, and
the content is pretty similar to Pangaea and Agharta though maybe not quite
as assgressive. I suspect you would like it.

"Electric Mud"? If that's it, Muddy disowned it.

He also played with Power Tools in NYC a couple of years ago, replacing
Frisell.
There was an article/interview in Guitar Player mag maybe 2 years ago.
Someone noticed the mention of Miles and pointed it out to me in a
store. I didn't buy it, though, sorry. But it should be fairly easy
to find -- most of the people I've known who read it keep all their
issues forever :)

In addition to all of the other albums that people have mentioned, Pete
Cosey played on many soul and R&B sessions during the early 1960's. He and
Reggie Lucas were busy studio musicians here in their native Chicago. I
believe that they played on Fontella Bass' "Rescue Me," and many other hits
for Argo/Cadet and smaller labels.

Last I heard, Cosey replaced Bill Frisell in Ronald Shannon
Jackson's group Power Tools.

But they might have played a grand total of one gig. Cosey lives in
Chicago. I have heard he does producing on some of the local blues
record companies. But I don't know.
He played two gigs in 1988. One was with a then Soviet pianist, with
Paul Wertico on drums. The other was with Billy Brimfield and a few
other AACMers.

Well in the Guitar Player interview I read (a 1990 issue), Cosey was
touring with Power Tools, which means he most likely played more
than one gig with them. I'm still interested in finding out which
Power Tools album he might be on and what label, in case Cadence
happens to carry them.
