Been looking for an copy of the album "Handscapes" by the Piano Choir for a
number of years now with no luck. Can anyone help with a CD-R or cassette
copy?

Thanks in advance.

I have the vinyl (is it even out in cd?). Wonderful album. Right now, my
tuner/turntable set-up is having problems, so I haven't been able to tape any
of my vinyl; hope to get it looked at soon. Interested in a swap of some kind?

David - remind me exactly what this was. Was it on a label like Strat-East,
maybe, and was Stanley Cowell part of it? Who else was in the group?

Take care -

George

I have both lps by the Piano Choir on Stata East. I haven't pulled them out in
a few years but I generally keep my records in good condition.

OK, Handscapes fans, get your pens or pencils and write this down.

from the hand of Mr. Cowell: "The Piano Choir 2-LP 'Handscapes' has been
reissued on the Piano Choir, Inc. label. It is minus the tune 'Man
Extensions'. It is available by mail order at The Piano Choir, Inc., 12403
Cecily Court, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774-5648, for $15.00 flat. There is also a
1995 recording of The Piano Choir, 'Handscapes95', a CD consisting of all new
material, recorded with five pianists live to one-point stereo with no
processing, at Baldwin Concert Artists Studio in NYC. It is also available at
The Piano Choir, Inc. address for $15.00 flat."

I sent off for them both as Christmas presents for Mrs. Bubba. Got 'em. I'm
partial to the original Handscapes but the H-95 is also good. Despite whining,
pleading and cajoling, Stanley said that there are no plans at present to
reissue Handscapes II, which contained Harold Mabern's beautiful "Which
Direction Are You Headed?" which was also on that Lee Morgan BN recording with
Billy Harper et al. Mabern is the pianist on the Morgan cd as well.

Handscapes was originally on Strata-East, but correspondence with Tolliver's
crew at http://www.serecs.com indicates that many of the recordings issued by
Strata-East were licensed from the artists themselves, such as the brilliant
Clifford Jordan "Dolphy Series" - CJ's "In The World" - feat. Kenny Dorham on
one side, Don Cherry on the other, CJ's "Glass Bead Games" with Cowell or
Walton (depending on the tune) on piano, Bill Lee/Billy Higgins or Sam
Jones/Louis Hayes again depending on the tune, Charles Brackeen's "Rhythm X".
According to the present day Strata-East, they have as much of a shot as anyone
else in licensing these works. Would I like to see a reissue of the Keno
Duke/Julius Watkins led "Reasons in Tonality" ? Oh, you bet.

All or most all of the Music, Inc./Charles Tolliver S-E's are available
directly from serecs.com. No one at Strata-East could confirm or deny that the
German pressed, British released <Charly> issues, which included the original
S-E artwork were legitimate licenses. I struggled with that issue as I
purchased "Glass Bead Games" in London last year. I'm not sure whether
Pharoah's "Izipho Zam" is currently available.

OTOH, I am in no hurry to replace my long lost vinyl of James Mtume Heath's
Al-Ke-Bu-Lan (Land Of The Blacks) - though it featured much the same line up as
Norman Connors _Dance Of Magic_ it was largely incoherent, if I remember.
