A very special event each year is The Veritas' Annual Evening with
Friends of Charlie Parker. This year, the Ninth, will feature legendary
jazz greats including Max Roach, Milt Jackson, George Coleman, Frank
Foster, John Faddis, Jimmy Heath, Randy Weston, Clark Terry and Al
Grey. It takes place on Monday, June 16th at The Supper Club here in
New York City, with a 6-8pm cocktail reception, prior to the performance
which begins at 8pm. All proceeds benefit the Veritas' "Healing The
Family" program. The evening is being co-chaired by the Hon. Charles B.
Rangel, Max Roach and Milt Jackson. Peter Jennings serves as the Benefit
Committee Chairman.
The originator and guiding spirit behind this gala event is Doris
Parker, Charlie Parker's widow, who togetehr with Sandy Jackson, Milt
Jackson's wife, reunites Bird's peers, artistic associates, friends and
jazz afficionados of the old and new generations. One of the city's
most popular jazz events, enjoying a packed house each year, this
"Evening" is a rare opportunity yo experience more than four hours of
unforgettable music performed by the masters. Other artists include

Cecil Bridgewater, Ron Carter, Sylvia Cuenca, John de Martino, Bill

In saluting Bird, who died before his 35th birthday form the effects of
substance abuse, these musicians contribute their time and talent
knowing that they are making a difference for a vital cause, helping
families and children heal their lives and break the cycle of addiction.
Veritas Therapeutic Community Foundation is a non-profit, drug-free
reseidential treatment program located on the upper Westside of
Manhattan. The "Healing The Family" program provides families with the
education, parenting and employment necessary to live independently and
create a stable, positive home environment for themselves and their
children.
Major supporters of the benefit include longtime sponsors Chase, ABC,
Inc., and Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Taylor, LLP. This year marks the
first time Agfa Division, Bayer Corporation has come aboard as "Official
Film Company."
Tickets are $250 and include reserved seating for both the coctail
reception and the performance. Music only general admission tckets are
