As a belated discoverer of early blues, I'd like to learn more about Charlie
Patton's life and career. I know he died in 1934 or thereabouts, that he
recorded a number of tunes (I have a tape of some terrific ones), and that he
influenced a lot of later musicians. But could some kindhearted person supply
more information, perhaps including discography and titles of published
criticism on Patton and his times? Much appreciated...

He has two CDs on the Yazoo label, _Founder of the Delta Blues_ (Yazoo 1020)
and _King of the Delta Blues_ (Yazoo 2001). There's also an album under
Friends of Charlie Patton called _Masters of the Delta Blues_. (Yazoo 2002)
As far as I know, those two have all of his known recordings. There's a book
about him called _King of the Delta Blues_ by Stephen Calt and Gayle Wardlow
which is availble through Yazoo records for $14.95 plus $2 postage.

As for Charley Patton (1887 - 4/28/1934) references, be sure and read
the original research done by John Fahey (guitarist and Takoma Records
founder) for his master's thesis which was later published. I obtained
both editions below via Inter-Library Loan. Check with your local public
or university library about ILL.

1966 "A Textual and Musicological Analysis of the Repertoire
of Charley Patton", by John Fahey, Thesis (M.A.),
Univ. of Calif. Los Angeles, LC: 67-003863.

1970 "Charley Patton", by John Fahey, Studio Vista
