Anyway, I am now music deprived here in this part of FL, and was hoping
to find some good blues joints in urban or rural Mississippi, especially
those that might fit the above profile. Any recommendations would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Lance

Drive to Clarksdale, go to the Stackhouse/Delta Record Mart and speak with
Jim O'Neal (the owner of Stackhouse/Rooster Blues Records and co-founder of
Living Blues Magazine) and/or go to the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale
and speak to John Ruskey, the museum director. They (or their employees)
should be able to point you in the right direction. Or you can call
Stackhouse at 601-627-2209 and the Delta Blues Museum at 601-624-4461.
There are a number of excellent jook joints (and numerous blues sites) in
and around Clarksdale. Most of the booking arrangements, however, are done
on a last minute basis although you shouldn't have any problem finding some
good blues on the weekend. Some of the joints around Clarksdale include:
The Red Top Lounge, Margaret's Blue Diamond Lounge, the South End Disco
(Red's), and the River Mount.
The best blues festival in the universe will be held in Clarksdale August 5
and 6th. The jook joints will be going hot and heavy during the festival.
Check out my other post for details and lineup.
