As the title suggests, I'd like to know who were the
musicians who played in Ry Cooder's great 1972 album
"Into the Purple Valley", one of his best, IMHO. The
printing I own (original U.S., as far as I know)
does credit only the producers (Lenny Warnoker and
Jim Dickinson).

My CD copy only list the producers too; no artist info. You'ld think
a veteran session musician would be kind enought to list his own
session people!

I wonder. A number of Cooder's recordings, when originally issued on vinyl,
were accompanied by a substantial lyrics and information sheet. In the UK
these were never distributed with the records. :-(

Chicken Skin Music springs to mind, but it's possible that there was a
sheet missing from `Purple Valley' as well.

All is not lost: Cooder did use a number of the same musicians on his early
albums, so if you have Ry Cooder, Boomers Story (another one with missing
info sheet in the UK) and Paradise and Lunch, it should be possible to
make some educated guesses. I'll start the ball rolling for you:

Keyboards: Jim Dickinson
Percussion: Milt Holland
Drums: Jim Keltner (best in the known universe - that ought to start
something!)
Horns: George Bohannon

Regards

Pete

I don't have it with me, but I think my CD copy says somewhere, "Thanks to
Tina Turner" - I'm almost sure that's her voice on Money Honey.

Yeah, could be. However, the first singer that came into my mind
was Aretha Franklin.
