My favorite is B.L.U.E.S. It is across the street from Kingston Mines and
Wise Fools is around the corner. Around the other corner is Lilly's.
Two other clubs of interest are BLUES ETC and Cotton Chicago, both are on
the north side near the other clubs I mentioned. Buddy Guy's new club is
sorta downtown.
What you need to do first is grab a copy of The Reader. It is a free weekly
entertainment newspaper. Most music clubs have copies of it, but they go
fast.... I think they come out on Friday's. Best bet is to go to
The Jazz Record Mart (11 W. Grand Chicago, IL 60610 (312)222-1467). The
Jazz Record Mart has a great selection of new and used blues and jazz and
ALWAYS has copies of The Reader. If Bob is there, tell him that Elliott
sent you. He'll be sure to point out any good blues bands/bars that you
should see. But The Reader has all the clubs listed each week according
to music style Blues, Jazz, Rock, Country, etc.
Good LUCK! I'm sure you'll have a great time!

I can't give you street names but there are several of them near Wrigley
Field in north Chicago. People who know them will probably tell you
that they are all good. The one I went to was Kingston Mines, I think.
I believe it's one of the better places to see the better bands. Enjoy!

There are several areas in Chicago that feature a concentration of
good blues bars. One place is the Fullerton/Lincoln/Halsted intersection;
south on Lincoln is Wise Fools, north on Halsted is B.L.U.E.S. and Kingston
Mines, and there are other clubs nearby as well. Clark Street (near Fullerton)
also has some nice clubs -- I think Blue Chicago is over there.
Rush Street has lost a lot of the good clubs -- the Jazz Medium is gone,
for instance -- but it's hard to imagine that they're *all* gone.
Then there's the southside, featuring the Checkerboard Lounge. And if you
can get up on Sunday, check out the Maxwell Street all-day jam sessions.
When you hit town, find yourself a copy of the (free) Chicago Reader;
it's a weekly newspaper that comes out on Thursdays and has the best listing
of concerts and clubs in town. Most bars and record stores carry it.
And if you see the balloon lady at Lincoln/Halsted/Fullerton, buy one
of her balloons even if you don't have someone to give it to.
