I'm not familiar with THE MERCURY SONGBOOK, but I assume Dave Frishberg,
who composed the song, performs it on one of his CD's, and vocalist
Kristin Korb performs it on her TELARC CD, "Introducing Kristin Korb with

If it's a quirky, off-key female voice; it's probably Blossom Dearie...
(Can't stand her voice!!!! But I know she's done the song)

I first heard the song by Blossom Dearie in the late 70's, but can't
tell you when she recorded it. Anita O'Day recorded the song in 1962
(originally on the LP "Time For 2", Verve), and it's possible that the
compilation you refer to may have contained that version.

I saw Diana Krall in Chicago several nights in a row(to see
Russell Malone, not to gawk at Diana)and she did this tune
every night. It was cool...really played on the obvious sexual
tension between herself and Russell. She calls it the sequel
to "Frim Fram Sauce".

I was watching some sort of Vanessa Williams concert on cable New Years
Eve (yeah, I was bored) and she said she was going to do a tune she heard
on a Sarah Vaughan record and promptly sang "Peel Me a Grape". She didn't
mention which album and I have no idea which one it might be. I know that
Blossom Dearie does that tune and it's probably on one of her Verve albums
of the late 50's/early 60's. I think it's also on a Dave Frishberg CD
called "Dave Frishberg Classics" on Concord (he wrote the tune).

Don't know why it was taken off of the set, but the version of the tune
that is on (I believe) disc 4 of original Mercury Songbook set is by
Blossom Dearie. It's also featured on her album, "Needlepoint Magic,"
recorded in 1979 for her Daffodil label.
