My reference book, Jepsen's "Jazz Records" gives the date as "probably
September 29, 1956, NYC". Discography isn't always an exact science!

If you are looking for original vinyl, you'll have a tough time,
although they do show up occasionally. Fresh Sounds in Spain have
reissued several of his Roost Lp's on CD.

Finding an original of this 10" LP is pretty near impossible. However
it was reissued a couple of times on LP:
"Early Tal" Blue Note (France) BNP-25104, coupled with Howard McGhee
session on which Tal plays
"Sal Salvador/Tal Farlow" Blue Note (Japan) GXF-3171, coupled with
Salvador session.
The bad news is finding one of these is almost as difficult as finding
an original!

Concord CD4616 Legends (Recorded in 1976 at Johnny Smith Guitar Center)
Also, he can be heard on...
Legende 1401 Annotations of the Muses (best described as "chamber jazz")
Roost 2206 Beverly Kenny Sings for Johnny Smith (1955)
Roost 2217 Ruth Price (1956) exact same group as 2216
Roulette Jeri Southern Meets Johnny Smith
Decca DL8058 Jazz Studio One (pseudonym="Sir Jonathan Gasser") (1955)
Columbia Benny Goodman Plays for the Fletcher Henderson
Foundation.
Columbia A Perfect Match w/Art Van Damme
Most of these, except for the Concord, and Moonlight have been unavailable
for years. Fresh Sounds reissued vinyl and CD copies of 2206, 2211, 2216,
2217, and the Jeri Southern. However, when Capitol bought the
Roost/Roulette catalog, Fresh Sounds removed them from the market. Some
record stores may still have copies. In fact, Jazz Record Mart in Chicago
still has a few CD copies left of each. The Goodman was reissued for a
while by Columbia and may still be available. This gives one a
perspective of his early style.
