It's on "African Marketplace" from 1980, reissued on CD by Discovery,
#71016.
It is on his album "Water From an Ancient Well", available on his own
label (name??) distributed through Enja.

It is on Water From an Ancient Well (Enja/Tiptoe 8888 12 2)
Abdullah Ibrahim & Ekaya, _African River_. A 1989 Enja recording.
On a related note, is anyone else blown away by Brian Abrahams' drum
work on the first track of African River, "Toi-Toi"? Well, ok, the
whole rhythm section on the first track. I've never heard a groove
like that anywhere else.

I have also found "The Wedding" on my following CDs:
"African River" - enja CD 6018 2
"Dollar Brand At Montreux" - enja 3079-02
"African Marketplace" - Discovery 1046-71016-2

In addition to 'Water from an ancient well', it also appears, in what I
believe to be a slightly superior version, on 'African River'(1989,
Enja).

I sometimes wish he'd play like that when he's got
a drummer & bassist. When there are soloists but
no rhythm section he's fairly busy (as witness the old
trio lp w/Don Cherry & Carlos Ward), but otherwise it's
mostly empty space. Don't get me wrong, I love
empty space -- it just seems like his playing has
only two "states": empty and full, and nothing in
between. His early records, like the trio dates on
Gallo w/Victor Ntoni and Louis Moholo, are somewhat
fuller in piano sound; he's playing closer to his
solo style. But we haven't heard him do anything like
that in years.
My personal solo piano favorite, BTW, is "Ancient
Africa" -- weird piano sound and all. What an incredible
record!

Like we need another one of these . . .
Doesn't this wonderful song appear also on "African Marketplace?" To
my ears, this is the most magical AI record of all featuring wild,
braying bone from Craig Harris and the magical banjo and guitar of
Lawrence Lucie (right, THAT Lawrence Lucie!).
Axe,

Originally issued on his album "Water From An Ancient Well", on the
Blackhawk Records, Ekapa series..BKH50207...in 1986.
"The Wedding" appeared on the album "Anthem for the New Nations" long
before 1986 (1978, in fact) and I can't swear that was his first
recorded version.
