Well, the RFD for rec.music.makers.guitar.jazz certainly hasn't
generated much discussion! I was looking forward to the debate, but
it hasn't materialized.

Frank: I didn't know Jazz guitar newsgoup was there! And I don't think it is anymore. I would have started us out: Stanley Jordan: 90% gimmick, 10% substance? Lenny Breau: similar concept , more substance.Lenny does what John Mclaughlin needed 2 guitars for on his "Bill Evans" album. Mike Stern: get past the tone, monserous bebopper. With chops like these, you wonder why Tal Farlow didn't practice more! Mark Whitfield: I already have Wes albums..Bill Frisell: Don't always like him, but he's always an innovator.(but I often DO like him re Motion trio. Later...Dave

I agree. How much more discussion can be generated on Miles et al?

I think the point may be that the group is not there yet, and may not appear
unless we show some kind of collective interest, so come on you lot, put your
keyboard where your mouth is before this opportunity is lost.

Is there some sort of vote on these things, and if so, will we be told when and
how to stand up (or more likely - sit down) and be counted at the appropriate
time?

I for one can't wait to have a newsgroup of our own for contemplating some of
life's eternal questions such as:

Where the hell do you get any sort of selection of flatwounds offered?

What does a Ted Greene record sound like?

Does a carved top sound very different to a laminated top?

Do UK guitarists realise how much cheaper and easier it is to import jazz
guitars from the US rather than buy them over here? (guess where I'm from!)

Which teaching books have people found the most useful, and are there
any areas that are consistently overlooked, and you've had to work out for
yourselves ?

OK so these subjects may only interest the players amongst us, but there is
plenty else to talk about without feeling that we're clogging up the screens of
those good r.m.b. people - and without us having to wade through all the traffic

on that newsgroup in search of the little gems about jazz guitar.

Hope to see y' all on the new group

Great idea, I've seen a lot of support both on r.m.b as well as
music.makers.guitar. I've been psyched about this since it was first
mentioned here, about two or three weeks ago, and I keep checking the lists of
new newsgroups, but it's still not there. I think this thing is going to be
huge, if we can ever get it started. Does anyone have any tips on how to
create this newsgroup? Appreciate it.

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining. I just posted my little message, and I guess
I'd like to encourage everyone else who thinks this is a good idea to post on
news.groups.

I would like to heartily agree. If you like the idea of a jazz guitar
newsgroup, PLEASE post to news.groups....DO NOT post here or any other
group as it is OFF TOPIC.
BTW, my E-mail address will change within 48 hours of this post. It will
be:
