Greetings All,
Over the past good many years many musicians have been receiving letters
from someone named Peter Oosterbos soliciting review copies of CDs for a
magazine called FURORE, supposedly out of Roosendaal Holland. Has anyone
ever seen or heard of this magazine? In addition to free CDs Mr.
Oosterbos also asks for addresses for many other musicians.

So far there has been no conformation that this magazine actually exists
and the growing consensus seems to be that this is entirely a scam in
order to obtain free CDs. Mr. Oosterbos has never consented to supply a
copy of the magazine nor has he answered any inquiries in a direct
fashion, simply more solicitations.

If any one has any information about the supposed FURORE magazine please
let us in on it. Otherwise I advise anyone receiving one of these
letters to ignore them. Pass the word.

Dear Ellery et. al.,
This guy is a complete fake! Don't send him anything! A Dutch friend,
saxophonist Luc Houtkamp (of course the Dutch musicians knew about him
first) told me he is a famous poseur over there. A few years ago I even
wrote back and challenged him, he sent me an indignant letter about how he
was just trying to support the music. So as you mention I said OK, send
me a copy of this "Furore" magazine. No response. But I hear from the
Dutch cats "Furore" does exist. Its a porn mag!

This is a scam, as confirmed by our Dutch distributor. He solicits us
(and presumably other labels) every year or so, and never responds to
a request for a copy of the magazine.

FURORE magazine is not "a porn mag" but a straightforward art magazine, published at irregular intervals in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Peter Oosterbos is a fraud who, in 1979, briefly acted as "review editor" for the magazine until he discovered how easy it was to order "review copies" of books, albums etc. etc. in the name of FURORE without publishing any review at all. I have asked him to stop this practice many times but to no avail.

FYI the website of the real FURORE magazine is here:
