Hi there,

Anyone heard of Anouar Brahem, the oud player? I picked up an ECM CD by
him (released in '91) a few weeks ago on a whim, and have been entranced.
can anyone supply any information on him - has he recorded anything else,
or was he one of Manfred Eicher's discoveries?

And what is an oud anyway? Presumably guitar-like, judging by its sound.

Thanks,

Andy

He has a new record out with Jan Garbarek & Ustad Shaukat Hussain. A bit
too "tranquil" for my tastes, but it probably sounds exactly as one would
imagine it to.

A Middle Eastern lute.

hi!
Anouar Brahem is a tunisian oud player. The oud is an oriental instrument which
looks like a guitar...it is very near to a "luth" (hope it is right in english)
He is at the origin of the revival of classic tunisian music.
One of his last release (1993 i think):
MADAR (ECM): with Jan Garbarek (Sax.), Anouar Brahem (oud) and Hussain (tabla)
MADAR means "stage" in arabic.

If you want more information e-mail me.

Best regards,

Souheil
