Karl-Michael,
I can immediately think of one title you're missing:
60039, Globe Unity Orchestra, _Intergalactic Blow_; Globe Unity also
did an LP called _Compositions_ for JAPO, but it's at home so I don't
have its number with me (I think it's 60025).

You're also missing LPs by the piano trio TOK (_Paradox_, 60035 I think);
Manfred Schoof's _Scales_; an Elton Dean Quintet around 60030, and
another Contact Trio recording (60036, I think). Again, I have these
at home - please let me know if you have additional questions on them.

I also need to verify your Vesala _Nan Madol_ title; it was issued as
ECM 1077 as well.

Just so others know, JAPO (short for JAzz by POst) was a "sub-label" of
the famed German company ECM Records, that from the early-mid 1970s
through the early 1980s recorded and released more "avant-garde" and
"free" jazz titles than ECM did. In fact, their model seemed to be the
Berlin label FMP (Free Music Productions); Globe Unity recorded for FMP
before and after their JAPO work.

JAPO recordings were done primarily in Germany, often at an ECM-used and
preferred studio, the Tonstudio Bauer; ECM's art staff often assisted
in producing the JAPO record covers. However, ECM's Manfred Eicher rarely
(if ever) produced a JAPO recording; most were done by either Thomas
Stowsand (umlaut over the o, and whatever happened to him?), or Steve
Lake, who still produces the more "avant" ECM recordings today, such
as the late Hal Russell's discs.

Alas, JAPO ceased its own label imprint in the early 80s; the most
successful JAPO performers, such as flautist, sometime-percussionist,
underheralded founder of what became (groan) "New Age", Stephan Micus,
continued recording on ECM. A few of the JAPO items with "commercial"
potential were re-pressed in the USA by Warner Bros in the late 70s
and early 80s, when WB distributed ECM in the States, just before CDs
began to become available. Only a few items from JAPO are only now
being re-issued by ECM Germany on CD; almost none are available in the
US (save for the Mal Waldron in the US, and the AMM III in Germany).

As you can tell, I've often liked JAPO; their "ECM quality" recordings
of free music were a rebuke to the "ECM stereotype". I still think the
later Globe Unity recordings, and the AMM III duet (Keith Rowe, guitars
and devices; Eddie Prevost, percussion) are among the finest, most
creative work from JAPO _or_ ECM.

Finally, a sidenote - the JAPO, Jazz by Post name, came about because
Eicher and past partner Egger had a jazz store and mailorder service,
in addition to the two labels! I used them regularly from '82 until
'88 or so, when that mailorder service was discontinued. And they even
sold labels other than their own -- they sent me some Soul Note and
Enja items that weren't then available in the USA!
