Laurence Petit-Jouvet's documentary on Peter Kowald's US tour in 2000
has been released. It's called Off the Road, and supposedly available
from www.mildoc.com (though haven't found it listed there yet). I
received a dubbed copy from the film maker: it's quite a remarkable
documentary, if only for the Europeans-eye-view of the USA. No full
performances of Kowald: pieces and concerts are intercut with travel
scenes, interviews, etc. as he plays his way around the country. It's
quite fun to watch. Recommended if you can locate a copy.

Gino,

I think this is the video titled _Off the Road_ (i.e. it doesn't mention Kowald
in the title). It costs 129.00 F or 19.66euro. It's (?) 72 mintues long. The
blurb says:

<<The German bassist Peter Kowald is one of the major figures of Free
Improvised Music. The film OFF THE ROAD was made on and around Kowal's extensed
tour of the USA in 2000. Following his journey around the country in an old
Chevrolet Caprice, the film is a sort of "free improvised road movie",
featuring meetings with many of the great names of Free Music (Fred Anderson,
Hamid Drake, "Kidd" Jordan, William Parker, George Lewis, Assif Tsahar, Rashied
Ali, "Baby Sommer... ans many others). >>

What I can't work out from the site is if the documentary would work on UK and
US videos. The site is French.

Do you have information on this?
