Brannum (sp?) A.K.A. Mr. Greenjeans used to sing that song periodically
on the old Captain Kangaroo show. Played the bass to it as I recall.
Some really good stuff on kid's shows sometimes.

The song was written by Hy Zaret and Lou Singer in 1945. Lissauer says
it was based on a 19th century song titled 'The Lone Fish Ball.' There
is an Andrews Sisters version. There may be a Joh White version. Fats
Waller did not record it. I haven't a clue about its availability.

Ann Rabson recorded it on her 1997 release "Music Makin Mama on
Alligator.

There's also a version by the folksinger Dave Van Ronk
somewhere. Whenever I sing the song, my wife leaves the
