He played all sorts of rippin' blues tunes from all the Kings, John Lee
Hooker, and Sonny Boy Williamson. Even played a couple of SRV's songs.
If I didn't have my eyes open, I would've sworn it was the man himself!
Picked up a couple of CD's from the show ("Pull the strings" and "Strat
Daddy") and they are both GREAT! If you play guitar you need these
CD's. Also, I got the chance to speak to Kenny briefly between sets
about his rig and his guitars, and I have to say, he is one of the
coolest musicians I have met in a long time. Not many people would take
the time between sets to talk tone with ya.

Come on, Mr. Baldwin. The header says only that the review was posted
through Kenny Ray's account. What's the big deal? So Randy doesn't have
an account & wants to speak his mind. So Kenny let's Randy sit at his
machine a while & read up & respond. What's so strange????? I've posted
from my mom's account when visiting her -- does that mean she's not for
real? Oh dear. Then who am I?
As for Kenny Ray's imprint on the blues -- he's made a good one. For as
much as he admits that he's standing on the shoulders of giants, if you
listen to the range of stuff that he's put out, you can hear his own unique
vibe running through his tunes. Sonny Boy has one. Jr. Wells has one.
Lazy Lester has one. Bo Diddley has one. Stevie Ray & Jimmie Ray each
have one. Kenny Ray has one. It's deeply inspired by the giants; it's
still singular and wa-a-a-a-ay cool.
Kenny Ray is generous with his acknowledgements of the giants, with his
music, with his stage, with his support of other musicians & I hardly think
one person's motivation to post his review using Kenny Ray's account is
cause to call him into question.
All due respect, who are you to judge anyway?

A public forum is not the place to air out this type of antagonistic
debate. It appears, Mr Baldwin that you have never heard of Kenny
'Blue' Ray or his music before you jumped on this forum. Kenny 'Blue'
Ray has four albums out - how many do you have? Sorry, but I've never
heard of you!
You can hear two cuts from Kenny 'Blue' Ray's album, "Pull The Strings"
along with a brief bio on the January 19 editon of Maximum
Blues-Internet Radio. The show is archived on the AudioNet site. I
suggest you listen first - then make your antagonistic accusations. At
least, you will know what you are talking about!
You can find Maximum Blues internet radio at:
http://ww2.audionet.com/jukebox/maxblues.htm
or
www.audionet.com choose "CD jukebox" select "blues"
You need a soundcard and a 28.8 modem. AudioNet has links to no charge
RealAudio software.
Make a request to the Request Line and you'll be entered in our draw to
win a 2-CD set of "Go Fever" from Garry & The Moodswingers and "Well
Travelled" from the RedHot Blues Band.
I hope you give it a listen. Thanks.

I don't think a musician who has albums is necessarilly better than a
musician who has no album.
Personnally, I've never heard Kenny. So I don't know if I would like
his playing. Maybe he is great. That's not the problem.
The problem is that Kenny tries to market himself a bit too much.
This is a group to discuss blues music. So I don't like to read every
week something like:
"I got the tone man!"
"I'm the real deal"
"I'm a real bluesman unlike such and such guys"
etc...
That said, I would like to make some suggestions to Kenny:
1) Put a one or two liner in your signature to point to
your web page, and leave the marketing to that only.
Of course you can then put as much stuff as you
want in your page.
2) Please clarify the story related to you working
with Curtis Slagado (whoever that might be). Did you
perform with him or not? Did you say you performed
with him? People are saying that you are making this
up. You should set the record straight.
I hope that Kenny will consider my suggestions.
We can then go back to be one big happy familly :-)

Sorry Baldwin, you missed the point. This forum is not the place to air
out your free-floating hostilities towards Kenny 'Blue' Ray. You are
not the policeman - nor the judge and jury. We can all come to our own
conclusions about Kenny 'Blue' Ray without any assistance from you,
thank you very much.

Sorry again, Baldwin. Even though I live more than 1600 miles away from
San Francisco (and in another country), I had heard of Kenny 'Blue' Ray
before I joined this newsgroup. Somehow I missed hearing anything about
you! Perhaps Antix did not make the earthshaking impact on the music
industry that you thought it did.
I still hope you check out my radio program - I'm not a doctor but
somehow I feel that listening to music with do you good. Maybe you can
direct all that anger toward something constructive.
All the best,
Tom

Actually, that's five with another on the way -- the last is on the same
label that carries the likes of Hubert Sumlin..... Baldwin is simply way
out of line.

Which label is that?
Barry
Kenny Ray is a fine musician. He plays the guitar sincerely,
and he doesn't need to prove anything. I've played for 20 years
myself, I know a quality guitar when I hear it.
Mr Baldwin, have you even HEARD Kenny play? I've met the man,
shook his hand. He's decent, softspoken and self-effacing.
I've got some of his CD's and they are a *joy* to listen to.
If you like the blues, go see him play. This slaggin' people
on the net is lame.
