The original Dan Lynch's Blues Bar, New York City's oldest and longest
running all-blues Blues bar (on 2nd ave & 14th St), which established the
NY Blues scene in the early (or mid) 70's under the guidance of the late
great harmonica player, Bill Dicey, is closing its' doors this weekend for
good :(
Aside from being a much sought after showplace and proving ground for many
NY and NY area blues bands, Lynch's was indeed home to many of them as
well. Some bands that worked there regularly and then went on to recording
fame include The Holmes Brothers, Popa Chubby, Michael Hill Blues Mob,
Satan & Adam, Little Bister & the Soul Brothers, & Little Mike & The
Tornadoes.
Blues lovers from all over the world would frequent this down n' dirty
juke joint, which went through many phases. A few years back, a second Dan
Lynch's was opened on St. Mark's Place in the East Village, but that
closed it's doors about 1 month ago.

There are several versions of just why this bar has come to an end, and
maybe we will never know for sure. One thing is clear, it will be deeply
missed, and a there will be a noticable gap there for Blues lovers in
town, despite the existence of a couple of other Blues joints in
Manhattan.

There are millions of interesting anecdotes and memories that surely can
be shared, not just by musicians who played there, but by anyone who's
patronized the place.

Please use this folder to add your memories for posterity...
