I read in one of the beatles monthly from about '64 or so that
John,Paul and George were all 5'11" and Ringo was 5'8" now I
asume that they have remained that height through the years
unless of course they have shrunk.

Here is a partial list of the Beatles' solo albums. My reference book only
went up to early 1978, so it is not current. Can someone fill in the
post-1978 entries? I'd prefer to limit the list to the legitimate LPs, and
not every obscure bootleg/single/etc. Please add the month and year of
release, as in the list below. Thank you very much!

I'm pretty sure that John, Paul, & George were (or are) 5' 11"
and that Ringo was 5' 8".

I always thought John and George were close to six feet, but after
thinking about it and looking through some pictures, it looks like J,G,
and P were all about the same height. Where on earth would something
like that be documented?

Would you believe Beatle cards? The old 1964 "color card" series,
to be exact. The first four cards in this series had the boys'
"Vital Statistics" on the back. You can see a photo of them in
Nicholas Schaffner's book, _The Beatles Forever_, page 19.

For those of you who don't have this book, I'll tell you what they
say - some of the answers are quite amusing!

Card #1 - Meet John Lennon
Birthday Oct 9, 1940
Birthplace Liverpool
Hair Brown
Eyes Brown
Height 5' 11"
Weight 159
Favorite color Green
Favorite food Corn flakes
Hobby Writing
Favorite singer Shirelles
Likes Cats
Favorite type of girl His wife
Brothers & sisters 2 step-sisters

Card #2 - Meet Paul McCartney
Birthday June 18, 1942
Birthplace Liverpool
Hair Dark Brown
Eyes Brown
Height 5' 11"
Weight 158
Favorite color Blue
Favorite food Roast beef
Favorite actress Sophia Loren
Favorite singer Little Richard
Likes Sleeping
Favorite type of girl Any kind
Brothers & sisters 1 brother

Card #3 - Meet George Harrison
Birthday Feb 25, 1943
Birthplace Liverpool
Hair Dark Brown
Eyes Hazel
Height 5' 11"
Weight 142
Favorite color Purple
Favorite food Hamburgers
Favorite music Hillbilly
Likes Drive-in movies
Favorite type of girl Friendly
Brothers & sisters 2 brothers, 1 sister

Card #4 - Meet Ringo Starr
Real name Richard Sharkey (sic) - their mistake, not mine!
Birthday July 7, 1940
Birthplace Liverpool
Hair Dark Brown
Eyes Blue
Height 5' 18"
Weight 136
Favorite color Red
Likes Science fiction
Favorite type of girl All types
Brothers & sisters None

I vividly remember these when I was a lad; my sister
collected them and the answer I found most strange at
the time was George's favorite music "hillbilly". I thought
it was some kind of a joke, but now that answer makes
perfect sense! Artists like Carl Perkins were their idols!

In the hey day of Beatlemania, heights, weights, etc. were all published.
5'11 and 5'8 were correct and I believe that one of them (Paul, I think)
was 11 stone 6 which I can no longer translate into American....

I read recently something that said Paul is in fact only 5'10" George is
around 5'9 1/2" and Ringo 5'7"...apparently their heights were beefed up a
little in the early days to keep the 3 out front all 5'11" etc. It looked
better on paper I guess.

that is interesting becuase on the front of sgt. pepper Paul looks
taller than Geroge and John (who apperar to be the same height)...but
yeah Ringo does look the shortest. Perhaps Paul grew after '64.

It seems like in the sixties, fans seemed to want to know _anything_
about their idols. Such "Vital Statistics" (plus not-so-vital) were often
printed in fan magazines and on record sleeves. Thanks to my own record
collection, I now know who smoked or drank in the Roulettes, and who
drove what kind of car in the Mojos. On the other hand, most people
couldn't name off either band's biggest "hits."

As I was reading this newsgroup I found the post about how tall each of The
Beatles are. Well, that reminded me of the back of the Twist & Shout LP that
I have. On the back it had a column called Personally Speaking. So I
thought that I would type it out and post it. I hope this helps out. So
here it is as it appeared on the album:

Personally Speaking:

John Lennon, born October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, is 5'11" tall, has brown eyes
and brown hair. He likes the colour black, steak and chips and jelly,
admires the work of singers Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, Ben E. King, The
Shirelles, Larry Williams, Little Richard, The Miracles, Elvis Presley, Gene
Vincent and Kay Starr. He likes clothes which are dark in colour-and suede
and leather

John Lennon plays harmonica, maraccas and "a bit of piano and banjo" and
spends much of his spare time writing, playing records, and composing. He
likes music, books, curries, painting, televisions and some modern jazz...and
dislikes thick heads and traditional jazz. With Paul, he has written all The
Beatles' hits, plus songs for Billy J. Kramer.

Paul McCartney, born in Liverpool on June 18, 1942, is 5'11" tall, has brown
eyes, dark brown hair, and attended the Liverpool Institute. He likes the
colour black, steak and chips, and follows the work of Ray Charles, Peggy
Lee, Dinah Washington, Chuck Berry, Larry Williams, Little Richard, Carl
Perkins and Fats Waller. As far as clothes are concerned he favours black
polo necked sweaters, suits, leather and suede. He also plays "a bit of
piano, drums, guitar, and banjo", and enjoys music, reading and writing
songs. Also likes music, television, drums and cars.

George Harrison, born February 25, 1943 in Liverpool, is 5'11" tall, has
hazel eyes and dark brown hair and attended the Liverpool Institue. He likes
the colours blue/black, enjoys egg and chips, Carl Perkins and Eartha Kitt,
and wants nothing more than to retire with lots of money. He likes casual
clothes, Alfred Hitchcock, and goes for the girl that is blonde and smallish.
In his spare time you will find George around either records, the guitar, or
girls. He plays one-finger piano, likes driving and television, and dislikes
having his hair cut and travelling on buses.

Ringo Starr, born July 7th, 1940, in Liverpool, is 5'8" tall, has blue eyes
and brown hair. Likes the colour black, steak and ships, Ray Charles and
Dinah Washington, sleek suits and ties. He lists girls, drums and cars as
his hobbies. He dislikes onions, tomatoes, Chinese food, motor bikes and
Donald Duck, and likes fast cars. His ambition is to own a string of
hairdressing salons.

The above was taken from the Twist & Shout album cover, Capitol Records 1964

I spent my later teen years listening to a new group just starting out....the Beatles! Back in the day we wanted to know all about them. We read the hype stating that they were all the same height except for their drummer...the "new" one, Ringo Starr! Paul was the tallest...if you ever saw them in person you would know. Next was John and then George who looked to be about an inch shorter and thinner than John. Sometimes, John appeared almost the same height as Paul...I guess it depended on the shoes worn. Their drummer who rarely stood up except for bows looked to be 2-3 inches shorter. I had a close friend who was 5'11" and Paul appeared to be his height. I had a few other friends in 5'9-5'10.75" range and John appeared to fit in that taller part of the range. Hope this info helps.

Lol! There are several laffable entries here.
What are chips&jelly?
John digs them. John
claiming to dig jazz?
First time he laid eyes
on a live jazz band, he
probably froze, his eyes
narrowed into disapproving
slits, and he probably thought " what a load o crap from a bunch o wankers "

Most people shrink as they age. Specifically their backbone compresses. I was 5'9" when I graduated from high school in 1966. I am now 5'6".
