Headline in todays Daily Mirror(UK Tabloid National newspaper)...'Oasis:We
are bigger than God'..Noel Gallagher doing a John Lennon?..(there..I got a
Beatles mention in;)..

What in fact He said..was much like John Lennon said.
ie. That to a lot of young people..Pop music and Pop stars ARE more
important than Religion..which is probably true;).

All the same..I cant help wondering at the timing of this (Oasis have just
released a new single and have a new Album out soon). And of course it
perpetuates the Beatle/Oasis comparison..which Im sure Noel Gallagher is
happy to go along with...and why not;)).

There's a very obvious joke here about being able to be even more like
John if...no. I can't say it.

Music probably more important than religon to a lot of young people?
I'd suggest "undoubtedly" and "the overwhelming majority"...

I laughed when I saw it.

Maybe we should rename N.G "John Lennon Lite" and shrug off his
pathetic words as being the sad outbursts (obviously planned) of
a "musician" who's been propelled from being in a pub band
by the marketing men. I can imagine it. Some twat in a suit
scuttles up the Gallagher.

"Hey, noel" -- giggles -- "why don't you make some comment
about you being bigger than religion!"

As far as I remember, John Lennon's original comment was an off the
cuff thing he said, and was always surprised at how much trouble
it caused in the US.

ELO have reformed, as ELO part II. They've done a couple of
album, I believe. I bought their first one for 99p in the woolies
sale. It's dreadful, sort of crap US style rock. The original
lineup of ELO part II only had Bev Bevan as the original member,
but I think more of the oldies have rejoined.

Maybe they could join up? Electric Light Oasis?

Yes, but we'd have Patsy Kensit and Noel release awful albums
with them naked on the cover.

Liam would go on to make a cover version of "The Frog Song" and
"Smoke The Pipe Of Peace" and then produce an album ripping off
Oasis.

The drummer would explode, as in Spinal tap, then resurrect
and narrate "Thomas The Multiple Rapist" for Children's ITV.

And the other guitarist releases a song called "I've Got My G Sting
Stuck Up My Bum" that features repitive verses and has him sitting
in a room that comes alive.

The Bass player? Well, he loses his hair, joins Fairport Convention
and continues to tour with them until 2050.

Oh yeah, and after Noel is shot by a Argentine Scud missile in the
2020 invasion, the rest of them get together and record "Free As A
Special Offer Big Mac" and "Reel Tape Recorder".

Meanwhile, in 2111 Hawkwing are still touring, supporting Jethro Tull
and Pink Floyd (Now a virtual Pink Floyd.)

I think its funny...I suppose it depends on whever you like Oasis music or
not. I do..a lot..But I dont pretend there is anything deep in what Noel
said..more like a good way to get publicity before the new LP is out.

Anyway..If Noel wants to go the WHOLE way in mimicing the Beatles..he has
to first leave his wife and hook up with a japenese fringe artist..then he
needs to have a legal battle with Liam and for Oasis to split up in
acrimony..and finally..of course..he must get himself shot by a nutter.

Despite appearing to be a contrived attempt to follow John Lennon's controversial
statement of 1966 what actually happened is that Noel answered a question.

Do you think Oasis are more important to the youth of today than God?

" Now that's a loaded question! I would have to say, without a shadow of a
doubt, that is true. Yeah. Football is more important to me than religion.
Some of the pop stars I like are more important to me than God, so yeah. I
would hope we mean more to people than putting money in a church basket
and saying ten Hail Marys on a Sunday. Has God played Knebworth recently?"

That's what he said.

I've just read a great quote from George Harrison, who, when asked what
he thought of Noel's "Proclamation" replied:

"I think he's been mis-quoted. He meant to say Oasis are bigger than
Rod, as in Rod Stewert".

Fair point I think. However, It's difficult to tell with the Gallaghers
which one actually wants to be John Lennon and who wants to be Paul
Mccartney. Anyone fancy betting on how long Ms Kensit stays involved
with this group?

Oh really. Oasis are no way bigger than Rod Stewart, who, if

stride across the Atlantic Ocean without getting his toes
wet. I doubt Liam and Noel could manage the Manchester Ship

Like Nasty out of the Rutles, Noel was speaking with a slightly deaf
jorno. What he actually said was "Bigger than Rod". Rod Stewart hasn't
been popular in years.

Caught Oasis on MTV the other night, (Don't watch much) Some song with lots
of Helicopters in the video ect. don't know the name. Not too bad, lots of
feed back and some backward sounding engineering ect.such as it was about a
5. Didn't see much of the Beatles in it though (Except for the backward
ending).

P.S. Bigger than Rod? maybe twenty years from now when Oasis is playing
Vegas I will make a decision.

Actually, I think that the new single is brilliant. I've always been a
fairly lukewarm Oasis fan, but my respect for them has definitely
increased after hearing this song. It's certainly the best tune to come

Errr George..we ALL get it...Noel Gallagher made those remarks precisely
because its similar to John Lennons comments and its a good way to get
publicity just before your new single comes out. (Like Liams do with a
cyclist). I dont mind Oasis...I like some of their songs a

No, but you *are* a moron. You need to actually read what was said before
you make a ignorant comment. Noel was lead into the statement by a silly

Hurrah, a fellow Brit who is an arse! I was starting to wonder where you
lot went to...I knew you were about, I've dated so many. Anyhow, don't
read what British tabloids tell you. As someone who has been to America
constantly and actually attended one of their Yank gigs, Oasis aren't
having a bit of problems stateside. In fact, their new single (which
hasn't been released so it's entry to the chart is ENTIRELY based on
airplay) is in the modern rock top 10. They cancelled the tour because
everyone had bitched to Noel about how awful it was constantly touring,
and he replied 'So go the hell home'. When they all insisted that they
couldn't, he said, 'Like hell we can't, watch me' and took off. *shrugs*
They only cancelled 3 US dates, and *still* have multi-platinums in the
US.

Eeeeeediot. *yawn* I get so tired of this groop, but it is so much fun to
flame bait idiots.

Cheers,
Lulu

Oasis can't be bigger than god, because god does not exist....
Except in the minds of many delusion people who do not comprehend the
meaningless of life(as in that there is no meaning, not that I am wildly
depressed or anything), so need to have their faith to stop them having
a nervous breakdown.

P.S Or maybe god does exist, but I am a cynic......
P.P.S On the subject of Oasis - They're an ok band, but why the hell is
that wanker Liam singing(singing? Whinging more like) when
Noel(apparently the one in the family with some brains and a little
talent) who has a better voice(Oasis Unplugged I think I saw him singing
live on) could be?
P.P.S I wrote this at 2 in the morning, so excuse any ramblings.

: Actually, I think that the new single is brilliant. I've always been a

Actually i think the new single is better than both free as a bird and
Real love.....and it's obviously much more influenced by the Chemical
Brothers, that by the beatles......long live Oasis!

you don't have any proof! No one does! in fact nothing can ever be proven other
than math formulae. (Agnostic, not what most people think it means. look it up.
