yoko probably would be more respected today in circles that understand
her
kind of art if she hadn't hooked up with lennon. hers is the kind of
art
that people who want to see a painting of a chipmunk that shows every
hair
would not know where to begin to understand so they put it down. so
it's
elitist and abstract and very humorous. it's her thing, not the
beatles.
~~~~~~~
It's quite true. Just as her arty circle of friends (John would say
arty farty) felt that her marriage to a pop star represented a selling
out of the principles they espoused (non-traditional commitments,
always putting the Work first), the world of pop music decided almost
immediately that the *older woman* from the mysterious metaphorical
world of minimalism had seduced John away from his true calling (The
Beatles).
John said so many times that people didn't understand what Yoko
"does"; it was a truism when he first said it: She's the world's most
famous unknown artist.
Heather Mills will always be branded for marrying Paul (if the
marriage proceeds) just as Linda was. But Heather is her own message;
the substance of her image is about tabloid human interest stories
that start out homeless and end up on Oprah. marrried to a cute
millionaire. She may ber the avatar of the tabloid happy ending
scenario. And she is great on rewrites... so who knows what level of
fame she'll achieve after Paul shuffles off to Buffalo...
I like Heather Mills.
But I feel sorry for her as regards the blessing/curse.
Oh puh-leeeeze. This isn't 1965 and she's neither Jane Asher or Linda Eastman.
Heather Mills is doing just fine. She's reached the highest rung (or at least
the highest for someone like her) of her ambitious money/fame ladder. She
couldn't ask for anything more and she'll come out of this better than Paul no
matter what happens.
She couldn't care less about the Beatles "curse/blessing". She was barely born.
I'm sure she barely cares about the Beatles.
Your gratuitous empathy looks good on paper, though.
Of course, this simply shows the level of jealousy to which you've
risen (or sunk). Truly sad Francine. Truly sad.
i don't see much to compare between heather mills and yoko ono other than
their being married to beatles. it's not a subject i find interesting.
i get bugged when people criticize things without the proper tools. it just
adds to the thought pollution that already exceeds tolerable limits. not
that it requires expertise to validate one's opinions, but if all you're
saying is you don't like brocolli then just don't eat it. that is your
choice and i don't need to know about it less i'm serving it with seared
yellow fin tuna steaks.
as always - enjoyed your comments---
