At the end of the song, what are they chanting? Is it "everybody smoke pot" or
"everybody's fucked up"? Been singing this songs for 30 years and still ain't

It's neither. There's three guys saying "Oompah, oompah, everybody's got one,"
and three women saying, "Stick it in your jumper."

Almost right.
Guys: "Oompah! Oompah! Stick it up your jumper!"
Girls: "Everybody's got ONE!"

Might sound like smoke since the Britsh girls pronouce "got" with a long "o"
kinda like "goat."

allegedly, the response is "OOmpah, OOmpah, stick it up your

No one understood me. The subject header reads "I am the Walrus Question".
"Is this thing ringing?" is a question AND (to my ears) is in IATW. Listen in
the middle where the song goes to a break, you'll hear what sounds like a woman
saying, "Is this thing ringing?", but her voice appears to be processed with an
actual ringing sound. Hear it????!

I knew instantly and exactly what you were talking about, but
I thought we were playing a non-sequitur game of "Pass It On"
with a Beatle theme. Liz started it ( methinks ) and presumably
we're all supposed to join in...

Ooompah, oompah, stick it up your jumper.
Everybody,s got one.

Both songs/ditties sung by English kids in the playground. Cannot believe that
the Beatles didnot, even Ringo (when he went to school).

Awwww POO! This new rule isn't expansive enough for me, it's too oppressive.
I'm out - sorry. Besides, me and you ( Ajoker4 ) seem to be the only ones
playing. If somebody else joins in, cool beans, but the rhyme rule squelches
it, IMHO. ...Liz's original thread ( RE: ' ), however, seems to be getting
"curioser and curioser".

The idea I had under this subject header was to generate lots of questions that
never get answered.

I like your idea of not setting any rules, it's more fun that way, like liz's
orig. thread. I'm game for psychological Beatles word associations if you are.
Give her a go...

I grew up with "everybody's blowing pot" and I'm sure if only you could ask any of the four principles you'd get four different interpretations.

I'm not sure we've even settled on what's said at the end of OBS. Geez, why don't they ask Paul questions like these instead of what's his favorite song or side dish?

Don't be absurd.

a) That's not what they're saying;

b) Even if that's what they were saying, it would never "land you in
jail".

Sure, why not? It's intelligable, so it *could* be just about anything,
but I don't think it really matters - it's just fun nonsense, not
something cosmically important - so whatever those actually involved in
the recording say is bound to be the real answer. We should all resist
the urge to read too much into it, especially since we mere mortals
have no way of knowing.
