You know, RichL and marcus, since I am not Chrisitian, I don't have a
pony in this race (as the saying goes) but I sure hope this isn't
going to turn into a Christianity bashing discussion.
If I were to say something broad like that about Islam, you would hand
me my head, tell me I'm a bigot, scream yell and put me in your kill
file. Right?
IMO, many religions are very complicated, complex, etc, and it depends
on what aspect you stress. I think there are many things about
Christianity that are very optimistic, upbeat, etc.
Who can argue with preachings and teachings about love, brotherhood
and "do unto others"? And for those who believe in "the coming
world," there is a lot to be optimistic about. I have
many friends and acquaintances who are Christians, and yes, they are
very optimistic and looking forward to the future. Many of my
religious Christian friends believe that if
one "accepts Jesus" and merely asks for forgiveness (which is easy to
do) they can look forward to a beautiful afterlife. This belief can
be a very positive force to sustain someone
when they are facing hard times such as an illness or the death of a
loved one.
