Who were these Thessalonians? Did they buy large numbers of Beatles
recordings? Did they parade about with pots on their heads? Did they
predict the future like Jean Dixon?

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

King James Version (KJV)

8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

John Lennon's entire catalog of songs was written to show his love of God!

9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power;

The Beatles were "the glory of His power"!

Speaking about my girlfriend seeing warriors, and you seeing
something wrong with me believing that, here's one for you:
This link you posted about John's Imagine album takes the
cake. This is nutty, but it doesn't surprise me since you post
with an anonymous remailer.

"Lennon's song, Imagine, is nothing more than a delusional fantasy."

No kidding. Jeez.

IMO, many religions are very complicated, complex, etc, and it depends
on what aspect you stress. I think there are many things about
Christianity that are very optimistic, upbeat, etc.
Who can argue with preachings and teachings about love, brotherhood
and "do unto others"? And for those who believe in "the coming
world," there is a lot to be optimistic about. I have
many friends and acquaintances who are Christians, and yes, they are
very optimistic and looking forward to the future. Many of my
religious Christian friends believe that if
one "accepts Jesus" and merely asks for forgiveness (which is easy to
do) they can look forward to a beautiful afterlife. This belief can
be a very positive force to sustain someone
when they are facing hard times such as an illness or the death of a
loved one.

There are individuals of all faiths who have made great sacrifices for
their fellow human beings, or their religion has inspired them in very
positive ways.
I wish John Lennon were here to give us further details on what he
meant when he said "God is a concept by which we measure our pain."

I would say the same thing about Islam or Judaism. As I clarified in a

literally.

This is true; however, these more moderate interpretations of western
religions require reading scripture as allegory in some places,
de-emphasizing that non-adherents will all burn in Hell, etc. etc.

I am no religious scholar, but it seems to me if one reads many of the things Jesus taught and the way he lived his life, some of the primary themes of Christianity are love, brotherhood and forgiveness.

As far as Judaism, if you read the Old Testament, there are many examples where G-d punished people i.e. the Great Flood. However, IIRC, G-d promised never to do that again.

The notion of Heaven and Hell is much stronger in Christianity and Islam than it is in Judaism.

And, BTW, Jehovah's witnesses don't believe in hell AFAIK.

Your objections seems to be to the most extreme, fundamentalist forms of certain religions. The more fundamentalist the person, the more he or she will think that non believers will burn in hell. From my experience, most Christians are tolerant and somewhat relaxed about their beliefs. They don't go around worrying about burning in hell. I don't think it is accurate for you to suggest that Christianity is not an optimistic religion.

Actually, I'm an atheist. I said "hell" figuratively.

Bravo, bravo ! very well said. the person you responded to has had nyms such as "thank you Bernie Madoff", Kikey Dee, Charlie Sheeney, etc etc (IIRC), with frequent attacks against me, Danny, Fattuchus, etc etc.

If Fatts makes a post on many subjects , he views it as an opportunity for a put down. It is not the subject material, it is the fact that Fatts makes a post.

I wasn't responding to her, Jeffy. I was pointing out her eternal hypocrisy.

She's been "bothering" me and most of RMB for years. Fuck you if you don't like it, Jeffy.

Sure. Rich, Bernie, Nil, abe, Tom, and several others who don't post here anymore. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting, but rest assured your dumb ass ain't one of them,

Needless to say, Gay Snyder and her pet monkey don't figure into this. Their permanent disappearance would bother no one.

Dismissed.

You were responding to her. You are such a liar. Here is the post
to prove it, below:

Only if you started dozens of off-topic threads about in in a Beatles
newsgroup.
Of course, you could do it in the newsgroup you started:

...but it's not a big enough audience for you -- which proves you only
do it in RMB to get on people's nerves. The next time you want to
refer to someone else as a troll, look in the mirror. <

I'm glad to hear that she bothers you.

Fuck you if you don't like it, Jeffy.

Why should I care if she bothers you? How dumb is
that?

You're too dumb to figure out they aren't going anywhere.
Keep up the good work.
