I play this game with my ears
pretending I'm hearing rock classics for the first time
e.g. by some unknown no-hoper on Myspace
it's weirdly unsettling/entertaining
stripping stuff of the patina of associations
just gave Bowie's Rebel, Rebel 'the treatment'
on balance, too much guitar for that reedy voice of his
but there you go
timing (and location) is everything
in comedy/music/romance
released now
who'd know/care/appreciate Rebel Rebel's "significance"
because it wouldn't have any
and because we didn't know any better back then
or now
or ever will do
certainly not me
and I'm a fan!
