I saw both shows, and they were both abbreviated. They left out "I'm
Your Captain," "People Everywhere got to be Free (sic)" "Back off Boogaloo"
and "No Sugar Tonight" and probably more. I was hoping the second show
wouldn't be short but it was (any Ringo is good Ringo, though -- I don't mean
to complain too much!).
: There was also an opening act... can't recall the name right now, but if I
: got out any of my Eagles albums, I could find it... he wrote "Already
: gone" "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and others. Just stood there solo with a
: guitar and sang, and talked about watching TV. Enjoyable, but odd.
Jack Tempshin or something close. His falsetto got irritating the
third time around :->.
: Anyway.... bottom line is: if Richie is coming your way, go see the show.
: Ringo was pleasant enough, but I thought it was sad that when both
: Ringo and Zak were playing drums, I could only hear Zak.
Actually, I was intrigued when both Ringo and Zak played. Perhaps
the sound was different but I could hear them both quite well. And
it really demonstrated to me why Ringo is so damn good. Zak is a
fine rock drummer. He really hits the buggers, just like Dad told him.
But Ringo played about 50% less when they drummed together. Ringo
just gives the song what it needs, and that's it. Zak works very
hard, and the song loses texture and dynamic when the drummer is
overplaying.
To me, Ringo's #1 attribute as a drummer is taste. I'll take a
musician with taste over chops anytime.

Randy Bachman and Mark Farner? Yecch! Gag! Who else is in the
current All-Starr Band lineup?
I saw Ringo & the All-Starrs in 1992, when he had the following
mostly-stellar companions:
Burton Cummings
Todd Rundgren
Nils Lofgren
Timothy B. Schmidt
Dave Edmunds
Joe Walsh
As well as father and son Ritchie and Zak Starkey. It was really a
pretty damned good show. Cummings was the surprise highlight for me,
his renditions of "American Woman," "Undun," and "No Time" were
spot-on perfect, and he even did the flute solo in "Undun" himself.
Another highlight was Edmunds doing a solo guitar arrangement of "Lady
Madonna" in a Chet Atkins/Merle Travis style. Rundgren's "Black
Mariah" was outstanding too.
Ringo was pleasant enough, but I thought it was sad that when both
Ringo and Zak were playing drums, I could only hear Zak.
And of course hearing Ringo sing "Yellow Submarine" brought a tear to
my eye.

Isn't it such a sad and moving song. Just talking about it brings me to
tears. Hear I go again....
I saw the second incarnation of the all starr band and
YS brought tears to my eyes too. I was EMBARRASSED
that he played it. I'm a huge Beatle Fan but I thought
this song was just too dumb. It's great when it's
on Revolver, but to see him sing it with all that other
great talent on the stage made me cringe. Why couldn't
he have done Back off Boogaloo or something. Even
Octopusses Garden would've went down better.
Don't get me wrong, I really like Ringo, but this song
just kind of put a damper on a really cooking show.
It's my opinion. Other than that, it was a fine show.
