John did NOT write Wonderwall... It was a George Harrison project from 1968 to
write the soundtrack for the film "Wonderwall"...
Is that anything to do with the "Wonderwall" film that George Harrison
did the soundtrack music for?

The very same....another Beatles link to Oasis.

interesting tho...if John HAD written wonderwall..would we all be
saying 'what a great song'??...is a song 'great' whever written by a
group OR in 'the style' of said group by another ??. to me..a song is
good no matter WHO writes it..even if it is derivative of another group.
Mike.
my god...you havent even heard oasis?..yes.,.I suppose you should
actually listen before commenting. I assume you telling the poster
that John wrote 'wonderwall' is a joke. 'wonderwall' was written by
'Nasty' that bloke from the 'Rutles'..... anyone knows that!;)
Mike.
or was it One of the 'Gallagher' brothers???..

Yes, I think you should...

I don't mean to be rude, but how do you conclude plagiarism from a
haircut? Borrow a tape, make up your own mind. No point in prejudice when
it comes to music; you miss too much.

The soundtrack for the film "Wonderwall" has nothing to do with the song
"Wonderwall", aside from the fact that both of them are from the 1960s. The
soundtrack for wonderwall is all instrumental, by the way.

John Lennon did NOT write "Wonderwall".

Yeh, that's right and "Wonderwall" was the name of one of George
Harrison's LP's.
Have you noticed that one of Oasis' songs's begins with nearly the exact
same beginning as John Lennon's Imagine? I don't know the name of the
song though.
No he didn't. It's an oldie. It was written and first recorded 20-30 years ago.
I think George Harrison wrote "WonderWall" for Oasis.
Chris.K.
The song's called "Don't Look Back in Anger", from "(What's the Story)
Morning Glory?". There was a special about Oasis, on MTV the other
day, and they mentioned this. They showed a short clip of John playing
Imagine, from the film "Imagine: John Lennon", and played "Imagine" in
the background. I must have been in some sort of mood, because when
they played this, I just broke down and cried. BUT, I admit I still
like Oasis.

"Don't look back in anger" has been stuck in my head recently. I can't
make out the words to it though maybe you can help. I haven't heard
the song "Imagine" are you saying they sound alike? I still think
George Harrison wrote "Wonderwall" for Oasis.
Chris.

The above story, while based entirely on fact, is an utter load. Thank you.
What?!! ONCE AND FOR ALL: Noel Gallagher wrote the song
"Wonderwall"...*sure* it's also the name for an obscure Harrison solo
album....*sure* it also was a common word used by Lennon (menaing
"wonderful")...but Gallagher wrote it, and to refute otherwise is as
laughable as claiming truth to the myth of McCartney's (supposed)
death...

Every true Beatles fan also knows that the song "Wonderwall" had nothing to do
with the album "Wonderwall", as it was an all-instrumental record.

He didn't. George had an album called "Wonderwall Music". It was an
all-instrumental soundtrack for the film "Wonderwall". He *didn't* write it,
and if Oasis had had the integrity of giving giving the real writer of
"Wonderwall" credit where it's due in "Morning Glory"'s booklet rather than
making it seem as if it were an original composition, we would have known who
*really* wrote it.

Not to flame Oasis, they're an okay band, and Wonderwall is a pleasant
song to listen to. But let's keep it in perspective. Oasis has not come
close to the originality or quality of the Beatles, and I sincerely doubt
they ever will. Oasis made their name as much for their penchant for
spewing obscenities and their boorish behavior as they did for their
music. If a band of guys that have no class and revel in acting like
children while all the while imitating another bands music is what you
prefer, then by all means: enjoy yourselves.
Me? I'll stick with the Beatles.
I never knew who this OASIS was until someone counterfeited a copy of
their album for me. I had hear WW and didn't know it was them!
I thought It was Sean Lennon. WHen I first heard it, it was right after
the hype of Sean having his own band. Definitely Beatle
influences...And that is another reason I thought that. He sounds like
someone in John's family to me in that song!(Sean or Jules)...
Also, isn't that song 12 bar?

: Ahhhhhhhh!!! When will this end???? I know nothing about Oasis, but I
: know that:
: (1) None of the Beatles wrote the song "Wonderwall" sung by Oasis. One
: of the Gallaghers wrote it, I assume. (Precisely who, I don't care.)
: (2) The *title* refers to George Harrison's soundtrack album,
: "Wonderwall Music." He composed the music for the British film
: "Wonderwall" which was released in 1969. That's the only Beatles
: connection.

Don't you hate it when people try to connect the Beatles with Oasis? It
probably was started by the agent for Oasis for publicity. Either that or
one of those whaks who try to put mysticism where it shouldn't be just so
they have something to talk about instead.
It was Noel-the one in the US at the moment-who wrote Wonderwall; on the
new Oasis album due out in January, there's a song called"It's Getting
Better, Man". now I wonder where he got the inspiration for that
from.....
Paul Sandars.
Where?? (Liam don't write songs for Oasis, only Noel does) Wonderwall
was a movie soundtrack or something that George wrote, I dunno!!
