Who in this band sang this song? It doesn't sound like their regular
lead singer. With this song, I can
imagine Paul singing lead vocals.

Lou Gramm, as always.

Hmmm. It doesn't sound like him on this song
at all. Are you sure?

Sure as I can be without asking him or Mick Jones.

Does it sound like him to you? Are you familiar with
the song?

It's a ballad, that's the only Paul-ish thing about it. That's not what
Foreigner usually did. I think it's an excellent vocal performance. Lou
Gramm was a very good singer. Unfortunately, he developed a brain
tumor, and the treatment for it permanently affected his voice.

Singer Ian Lloyd (Stories, "Brother Louie") claims to have ghost-sung
for Gramm on a few later Foreigner tracks when Gramm wasn't physically
up to the task, but I'm sure that "Waiting for a Girl Like You" was all
Gramm.

I was wrong. It sounds more like Elvis.

The lead singer on that song is not Lou Gramm.

I still think I'm right and so are you. The singer sounds nothing like Lou Gramm.
Do you know who did sing this song?

It's sung by the guitarist, Mick Jones.

Thanks, Nil. Do you like this song? Did Mick sing any other songs by them?
I could look it up, but this place is slowing down so much.

It's OK. It is pretty Beatle-y with the background vocals and all. The
singing isn't great, but it works to give it a McCartney ballad vibe. I
do like the saxophone - I'll always give Ian McDonald major props for
his playing on "Court of the Crimson King" and "Red", and everything
else that I've heard him touch seems to shine.

I'm not a big Foreigner fan. I always thought that they were overly
calculated FM radio hitmakers, trying to work the same soil as, say,
Bad Company and such. But they were good at it, good at making
commercial semi-hard rock. I like some of their songs.

I see that this thread actually goes back to 2011, and I commented on
it back then. I now see that I had the wrong song in mind back then - I
was thinking of their hit song, "Waiting for a Girl Like You". Doh!
