This AP article was published in many US newspapers on June 30, 1980.

NEW YORK-Rock star Billy Joel may be singing the blues now that his
application to live in the exclusive Dakota apartment has been turned
down by the building's board of directors.

Some residents, which overlooks Central Park, feared Joel would
attract "groupies," and disapproved of the singer because he admitted
using drugs.

Dakota residents have already had their share of inconveniences from
fans hanging around hoping to see residents John Lennon and Yoko Ono,
Lauren Bacall, Gilda Radner and Roberta Flack also live at the Dakota.

Joel was not available for comment.

Sounds as if they're in their rights to reject him. More power to
them.

Joel later said he was rejected because he mentioned that he only
smoked pot once. Considering all the depravity that went on in John
and Yoko's apartments, I think it's hypocritical. I wonder if Yoko had
something to do with Joel's rejection. BTW another article was more
specific when it said that residents were concerned about "fans of
John Lennon and Yoko Ono" without mentioning the other celebrities
listed. I had heard that people who lived in the area were concerned
about security due to all the Lennon fans who hung around the Dakota.

Uhhhh, maybe they didn't believe the story about smoking pot only once?

I thought I was YT number 5?

Yeah, I also wonder if Yoko was behind The Holocaust, the Kennedy
assassination, the Mexican cartels, the Oklahoma City bombing, The
Holodomor, etc, etc. Gee, that Yoko sure is evil. Better keep her under
lock and key until the world ends.

And we all wondered how long it would take you to start pecking at him
for raising a question about your excuse for destroying RMB.

What is truly evil, Mackensie, is the Yoko "supporters" repeatedly
voicing their criticisms about the YT's criticism of Yoko.

Yoko has stated that if she'd slept with Hitler, the Holacaut and WW2
would never have happened. Typical stupid Yoko bullshit blather. I
wonder if she ever pulls her head out of her ass.

This is very interesting. I never knew about Billy's attempt to move to
the Dakota.

If this had happened, there is a possibility that Billy Joel would've
hooked up with John Lennon - and some interesting jams would have occurred.

Hmmmmmm....

P-Dub: It's still rock 'n' roll to me.

It's not that Robert. It's the rehashing of things that happened
30-40 years ago. It's all in the past. Like George said:

"Be here now"

I have no problem with posters criticizing Yoko or her music, but I do
have a problem with posters postings comments intended to cause a
flame war based on shoddy evidence and/or unfounded speculation. In
other words if this is true why doesn't UTom cite his source instead
of assuming that Yoko had a hand in Joel's rejection?

According to most sources who were around him, his mistress beat Yoko
to the chase.

You must have a definition of 'evil' that's different from that of normal
people.

I didn't say she did and my name isn't "UTom."

That settles it, let's all meet here in 2040 to find out who didn't
get into the Dakota in 2010.

You mean Eva Braun? But it didn't work . . . . we still had the

It's amusing and somewhat amazing how UT can link Yoko to an event
where she hasn't even a remote connection. I agree with Poisoned Rose
here: the pecking at Yoko is unnecessary in this incident. I wonder
if UT even faintly believes half of what he types- I personally doubt
it.

I just said that it's plausible. Residents of the Dakota voted to deny
Billy Joel's application. Yoko was a resident of the Dakota. The fact
that John would not come to bat for a fellow recording artist is
something I find odd.

I read somewhere where Joel claimed he
lived only a mile, or 3 miles from John, and he
wished he could have met him, but unfortunately
it never happened, so I'm not sure he was even
aware of who Joel even was. When did Joel
become popular? Wasn't it after John's death?
I should google it but it's getting late.
