Re The Captain & Tenille:

I read some quote once attributed to them to the effect that The

misue their fame like The Beatles did.

Apparently they were faithful to this promise.

Sometimes John would sing and Yoko would scream from a bag. Does that

Surprisingly, Yoko was not in the bag because John put her there.

Well, you can find just about every possible combination of random
words on the internet, so I don't take that as being any authority. But
no matter who may have called them a "singing duo" it's just as
misleading and inaccurate as calling them a "guitar-playing duo." And
this thread seems to be about pairs of singers singing duets.

> "musical duo" would have been more accurate.

Yes, that's better.

Well, if one stood there and sang while the other one danced, would you

Well, no. Les provided the music that was not sung. Mary sung what was
sung. The duo didn't sing, one individual sang. The adjective
inaccurately described the duo.

If one was red and the other blue, would they be a blue duo? I say no.

Yes, but you are being pedantic. He played so she had a melody to
sing to, no? The duo was not defined by his playing, but by her
singing. Usually, a professional singer has musical accompaniment; ie,
"The Nelson Riddle Orchestra with Frank Sinatra singing.........."

Are we still on this? We're in a new century.

Only slightly. Actually, now that I think if it, not at all.

No. I don't think he played her melody line. He played accompaniment
parts and left the melody line(s) to her. I hear little duplication of
effort.

> The duo was not defined by his playing, but by her

Not by me. They seemed to be on pretty equal footing, but he was
clearly in charge.

> Usually, a professional singer has musical accompaniment;
> ie, "The Nelson Riddle Orchestra with Frank Sinatra

Precisely. It wasn't "The Nelson Riddle Singing Orchestra". Similarly,
it's not the "Les Paul and Mary Ford Singing Duo" or the "Mary Ford /
Les Paul Guitar Duo". It's the 'Les Paul Mega-Overdubbed Guitar
Orchestra with Mary Ford Singing', or, depending on your point of view,
'The Mary Ford Mega-Overdubbed Chorale with Les Paul Making some Guitar
Noises'. Or, more simply and accurately, "Les Paul and Mary Ford."

Strictly speaking they were a duo and one of them sang; therefore,
that makes them a "singing duo" ( a duo that produced song).

OK, so it's "The Boston Pops Triangle Orchestra", and The Beatles were

Make that Linda McCartney as the main writer. She's not much
of a fan.

Let's see, Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush shared vocald on a few songs, most popularly "Don't Give Up" in '86 or so. I prefer both artists' earlier work, but the drum/bass groove in DGU was okay.

The THE (I forget the bandleader/vicalist's name) had that interesting duet w/ Sinead O'Connor, "Kingdom of Rain" in the late 80s. I'm a bit surprised the video got play on MTV, what with some of the graphic lyrics.

Though it was for only one hit between these three, here a few more:

Diana Ross & Lionel Richie (Endless Love)

Kenny Rogers & Sheena Easton (We've Got Tonight)

Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton (Islands in the Stream)
