When The Beatles first performed for the US on the Sullivan show John Lennon was 23.

When Elvis Presley was 23 he left his career to serve in the army.

"Elvis died in the Army. The difference between him and us is that with us, the manager died and we lived. With Elvis, he died and the manager lives."

The Beatles did not start at the Ed Sullivan show.
The Beatles were already more then 5 years famous in Europe before they
came to the US.
