Some sad news...
This was posted today on the Abbeyrd website:

Harold Phillips, also known as Lord Woodbine, a friend of the Beatles when they
were known as the Silver Beatles and who also booked some of their early
concerts, died in a house fire at his home in Toxteth, reports the Liverpool
Echo. He was 72. Also killed was his 60-year-old wife, Helen. A spokesman for
the Beatles said: "The guys will be shocked to hear of this dreadful news. Lord
Woodbine was a great character and it really is a terrible loss."

Woodbine got his name from the cigarettes he smoked. "Woodie," as his friends
called him, booked the Silver Beatles for some informal gigs in 1960. "Woodie,"
as he was known to his friends, also became Allan Williams' partner for several
business dealings. It was Williams and Woodbine who booked the Silver Beatles
to back up a stripper named Janice. The group was paid 10 shilling for two
20-minute spots. He also was among a group who accompanied the Beatles to
Hamburg. (Source: Bill Harry's "The Encyclopedia of Beatle People")
