Wheels Across America
Oh, just kidding. John couldn't drive a nail, let alone a car.
If you're thinking of the trip Lennon and Ono made to San Mateo, CA.,
in the early 70s, it's discussed in Weiner's book "Come Together" and
Goldman's book. The trip was made with assistants, of course. These
two books don't try to conceal the fact that Lennon and Ono made this
trip to visit a Chinese acupuncturist (they ended up moving into his
house for a while) in hopes of getting rid of their methadone
addiction and eventually getting Yoko pregnant. In the Rolling Stone
article, "The Private Years," Mintz is quoted talking about John and
Yoko during this time...for what his take on events is worth (not
much, IMO).
You should have seen the expressions on customers' faces every time
John and Yoko made a Stuckey's stop.
The only thing I remember like that was something about trips to upstate
NY when they were looking for land, or maybe they already had the
Franklin property.
Maybe he's thinking of the green "Family Roadster" owned by the
Griswolds in "National Lampoon's Vacation".
Seriously, I remember reading about a John and Yoko trip in a car in
CA...might have been the Jon Wiener book mentioned previously. I
looked in Anthony Fawcett's "One Day At A Time" and didn't see it in
there.

The Family Truckster?

I wonder if they were ever even in California together.
ROTFLMAO!
Ouch, you've got me there...and me, someone who has memorized most of
the lines from that movie.
Seen it at least 50 times.

I can just imagine the rubes who stood open-mouthed in the roadside
restaurants and gas station restrooms...

The driver was one of Yoko's assistants, a (of course) diminutive
little hippie named Peter Bendry.
But John Hughes was voice of youth culture. He was the John Lennon of the
80s.

Please tell me you're baiting PR....
It's very strange I asked about John and Yoko's road trip across the
USA. It turns out Sir Paul and his new girlfriend are taking a road
trip right now across the USA!

Paul McCartney's girlfriend Nancy Shevell sure is a roadie – in a big
way.
She and the ex-Beatle embarked last Thursday on a cross-country road
trip along the iconic U.S. highway Route 66.
Believed to be traveling in the classic '89 Ford Bronco in which they
were first seen kissing, McCartney, 66, and Shevell, 48, were spotted
in Joliet, Ill., last weekend.
"They looked totally in love," Springfield, Ill., resident C.J.
Lowder, who bumped into the couple at a gas station, is quoted as
telling Britain's Daily Mail newspaper.
Another traveler who crossed paths with the duo is quoted as saying,
"They told us they were on a trip and going on to St Louis before
heading West. No one could believe that it was really him – he was so
laidback and ordinary. They seemed like a great couple."
LOL! Actually, they could have used a few Stuckey's visits. They
were both extremely emaciated (and hooked on methadone) at the time.
