I've heard somewhere that Mike Oldfield's "Moonlight Shadow" is about
John's murder (or at least about Yoko's feelings about it). Just listen
to the words.

Paul Simon's "Johnny Ace"
U2's "God part II" makes a passing reference
And obviously there's Paul's "Here Today" and George's "All those Years Ago"

Every time I see the Dakota, I think about that night.
Shots ringing out, the angry shout, a man losing his life.
It's something we shouldn't dwell upon, but it's something we shouldn't ignore.
Too many good men have been cut down. Let's pray there won't be any more.

There is some song buy some indie band in the U.K. titled "I Hate Oasis

The songs you mention are George Martin instrumentals, and therefore,
have no lyrics.
By the way, thanks for the picture you E-ed me. I'm looking for
something in the 1967, Penny Lane/Hello Goodbye era. Have you got
anything like that??
E me if you do.

Ricky Nelson song it.
"Thanks John" by the Flamin' Groovies.
There are several Beatles references in "American Pie" by Don McLean.
There's a line in some Elvis Costello song that goes something like
"wasn't it a rich man that said "imagine no possessions"?". Can't
remember which one, but it was from the album after he worked with
MCartney. (Blood & Chocolate?)
The Motors did a song called "That's What John Said" which featured
Lennon on the picture sleeve.
There was a Rich Dodson (former Stampeder) single that had ten minutes of
silence on the B side as a tribute to John (lucly for him he didn't get
sued as there was a Lennon/Ono track on Life With The Lines called "Ten
Minutes Silence")
There's a wonderful Bob Segarini track called "Love Story" that talks
about John & Paul. It's on the Gotta Have Pop album.
Hope this helps....

It was a Rick Nelson song called "Garden City" about Rick's ill fated
attempt to update his act at Madison Square Garden in The 70's. John and Yoko were
there I believe. He was booed off the stage after starting off with a different
song.

In fact, it was the main track on a whole album of obscure Beatles
covers by the semi-legendary British r&b group.
For example, "Another Hard Day's Night" as listed on the "Help!" s/t is
the "Indian version" played by the Clang followers who take over the
restaurant.
As such, there are no lyrics.

Queen did one called "Love is Real" on Hot Space
Don't forget Oasis' "Live Forever". It's a classic too, Noel's
favourite Oasis song.
(It's as much about life in general as it is about John, but that makes
it even greater.)

Will,
The four songs you are referring to, The Bitter End, The Chase, In the
Tyrol, and Another Hard Day's Night, are all instrumentals. There are no
lyrics to them, but I am not sure who the author credits are for them.
They are basically just backgruound music from the movie Help! My dad
used to have this album ages ago, and I wish I could hear them again,
they were pretty interesting.

I've actually seen the American versions on Casette tape, with all of
the backround music intact. They're also often cheaper than the
CDs....

"Was it a millionaire who said 'imagine no possesions'?" From "The Other

some songwriting contribution from Macca. (There's nothing from Paul on
Blood & Chocolate, however.)

The Lennon/Ono track is "*Two* Minutes Silence", not Ten. And the Lennons
would hardly be in a position to sue, as the idea seems to have originated
with "4 Minutes 33 Seconds" by John Cage.

I'm guessing because it defends against criticism of his music, which
Lennon had taken part in with "How Do You Sleep?" but I really think this
song was more directed at pop music critics of the day, not John. But
didn't Paul respond to "How Do You Sleep?" in another song? I think it
was called "Dear Friend." ??

Which reminds me.... Costello's "The Other Side of Summer"
It's not about Lennon, but it does refer to him.

How about " Somebody Got Murdered" by the Clash? Its on the "Sandinista"

Here's yet another, I keep coming across these.
From "Ballrooms of Mars" by T Rex from The SLider LP:
"John Lennon knows your name and I've seen his."
The same song also makes mention of Bob Dylan and Alan Freed.
