>I didn't hear it but he was ripped to shreds on the Stern ng.
I'm surprised that Sean appeared on Stern's show. I'd love to see the
transcript.
Tom
He didn't like Sean's music....and Sean came off like a complete ass on the
show because he took Howard's opinion personally.
Sean and Howard got into an argument about the FCC rules about cursing
on the air. Sean said he thought Howard was a rebel and he curses on
the show more. Howard had to explain to him that there are rules and
he has to obey them because he has to make a living doing what he
does. Robin told Sean that's the difference between the two of them.
Howard has to work for his money so he has to obey rules. Sean refused
to listen to them and continued to curse which showed how he doesn't
seem to care about following rules.
Howard said that he saw Sean at a party one time and neither of them
went up to each other. Sean thought that Howard didn't like him
because he goofs on his music. Howard told him just because he doesn't
like his music doesn't mean that he doesn't like him as a person. Both
of them said that they could hang out with each other if they meet
somewhere sometime. Howard told Sean that he shouldn't be afraid to
come up to him at a party. Sean told Howard he could hang with him out
in L.A. next time he's there. Howard had to take a break because he'd
gone so long talking to Sean. Plus, Sean was still cursing and he
couldn't let that go on much longer.
Thanks for the blow by blow.
Good for Sean.
Hardly....Sean came off like a complete ass. Would you dislike someone if
they didn't like your music?
>He didn't like Sean's music....and Sean came off like a complete ass on the
>show because he took Howard's opinion personally.
I didn't hear the interview, so I can't speak to how Sean came across. But it's
tough _not_ to take something personally when someone publicly dismisses your
music.
And your mother. And your situation financially (not like Howie doesn't
have a few bucks in his pocket...'needs to make a living' my ass....it's
simply an ego outlet for him).
So what are the chances of *everyone* liking your music?
You have to be objective and realize there are those that won't.
If they made a point of publically trashing it, probably.
If they made a point of publically insulting my mother, definitely.
>
So if you get a bad review you hate the reviewer or do not care and move on?
There's a difference between giving him a bad review and trashing him at
every opportunity or making a point of bringing him up in order to trash
him.
>
>So what are the chances of *everyone* liking your music?
>You have to be objective and realize there are those that won't.
Let me suggest this -- you put your music out to the world and we can all see
how you react when someone, as Tom wrote, publicly trashes it and then wants to
talk to you live on the phone over the air.
Not how you _would probably react;_ that's just a hypothetical. Get your music
out, wait for Stern's review and his subsequent phone call, and then get back
to us.
Until then, you will have no authority to dictate how one should respond.
That didn't happen....Howard played Sean's album a while back and said he
didn't like it. I can't think of too many times that Howard has brought up
his name.
How about this.....have you ever done something creative and had a frind say
they didn't like it? Would you dismiss your friend?
Where do you get that I'm "dictating" how someone should respond?
>How about this.....have you ever done something creative and had a frind say
>they didn't like it? Would you dismiss your friend?
>Where do you get that I'm "dictating" how someone should respond?
(1) Yes - friends are people you trust, not radio broadcasters who like to
insult you publicly; (2) no; and (3) I'll refer to your own post:
"You have to be objective and realize there are those that won't [like your
music]."
Howard didn't insult him...Did you hear his review of the album?
Point is....it's all opinion.
You asked me how I'd react to a friend's criticism of my music. Which is far
different than the scenario already described several times in Stern's case.
He's done it enough, though. The time he had Julian as a guest comes to
mind.
Besides, he does constantly trash Yoko, which should be enough reason for
Sean to think he's an asshole.
>
Yes
Would you dismiss your friend?
No
But they didn't do it in public, they didn't do it after insulting my mother
(and, if I remember correctly, my current girlfriend), and they didn't do it
repeatedly.
Besides, Howard and Sean aren't friends.
Don't you think that his comments about Sean's relationship with Yuka Honda
were insulting? How about Howard's remarks about Sean not having to work for
a living? (especially with Robin's lie about Howard having to work.)
>
When he played Sean's album the strongest commen he made was that he sounded
like a girl....that's hardly trashing him.
>
> Besides, he does constantly trash Yoko, which should be enough reason for
> Sean to think he's an asshole.
>
Sean must think a lot of people are assholes....
That''s fine....you answered it....but the question remains...did you hear
it?
Not at all.......and it's true....he doesn't. have to work.......
Right....point being it's all opinion.
And he made stronger comments afterwards.
> >
> > Besides, he does constantly trash Yoko, which should be enough reason
for

Probably. And he's perfectly justified in doing so. This IS his mother we're
talking about.
>
Neither does Howard.
>
>
>
Hard to say not knowing what he pays Alison.
>That''s fine....you answered it....but the question >remains...did you hear
it?
I addressed that in my initial post. I didn't, and so I was not equipped to
comment on the specific event. What I did respond to was your post re taking
criticisim personally.
Well, there was nothing there to take personally....
>Well, there was nothing there to take personally....
And we return full circle.
Indeed we do.
You're ignoring all subsequent comments though.

Like what??
What a silly comment...
What changed?
I think he also at some point said there was something wrong with Sean
dating Yuka Honda, but I can't find a transcript of that.
About as much as Sean has. Howard is occasionally funny, Sean is a good
bassist.
> interstate5
>
All well and good...that was Howards *opinion* which he is entitled
to......hardly personal....and to dislike someone for that is insane...why
even care about that?
A good bassist doesn't guarantee a good album.
So what if it was his "opinion?" Those are still insults. As Lou Reed said,
" Can you imagine putting a year of your life into an album and having some
asshole in the Village Voice give you a B-?"
And I suspect you'd get offended if someone publicly expressed the opinion
that your mother was a witch.
>
>
That wasn't what I was talking about here. I was comparing the relative
levels of talent.
>
So what?....you release an album and not only are there critics in the
papers...there is world of mouth which is critisim in itself.....and you
better damn well be ready for it.
>
> And I suspect you'd get offended if someone publicly expressed the opinion
> that your mother was a witch.
>
>
I'm sure there were people that didn't like my mother....who cares what
their opinion was....it's an opinion which everyone is entitled to and I
sure don't judge people by opinion alone....
>
> >

So do you think Sean's album was a good album?
What I heard didn't make an impression on me one way or the other. I
wouldn't call it great, I wouldn't call it crap.
But he is good bassist.
>
I heard the interview and there was an undercurrent of antagonism
between them. Stern dragged his own ass up the greasy pole and made his
own success--like John Lennon and friends. It was a self made man
needling an a rich boy dilettante who doesn't support himself bawling
from the doorstep of the house he can't afford.
Yoko is more self made than any half-Lennon. Ringo could kick both boys'
asses and I wish he would.
Timothy J
>I didn't hear it but he was ripped to shreds on the Stern ng. I know Stern
>makes fun of Yoko all the time, but has he ever taken shots at Sean?
The only place I ever heard about Howard Stern is RMB. He sounds like
a jerk to me, but of course, he might be a sweet, loving, tender
individual who just has problems getting it out.
Ian
I would think that you would have to give him a good listen before you offer
an opinion.
i suppose you're the type of moron who would pick up a piece of dogshit and
chew on it before he could say it tasted like shit.
Hmmmm...looks like shit...smells like shite....tastes like shit...glad I
didn't step in it!
speaking of shit, say hi! to abby for me.:)
Good for Howard. Sean is a pussy
Probably, but Howard is a dick.
Just wondering.....do you like him as an interviewer?
Oops...heehee ... unintended, but for the sharp Kavis eye it may have
gone unnoticed.

Ouch! I still don't think it would be a good idea, even in that case,
Chuck. *Especially* in that case. ;)
Ever seen what happens when someone pees on an electric fence, or in a
stream with candirū fish? ;P
I don't think that's what would happen here...I think I could make a good
argument that Howard is the new free format radio...and since you remember
the wonderful days of truefree format radio I thought it would make for
interesting discussion.
Clearly I had not thought that one through!!!!
It's al been done before. It's exactly how it happened. This is a Beatles
group.
I think I could make a good
>argument that Howard is the new free format radio...
He isn't the new anything. He's been in this biz 20 years. Hardly new.
and since you remember
>the wonderful days of truefree format radio I thought it would make for

Nah, he's just a dick, what can I tell ya?

I think you'd be on even shakier ground than you would be by saying Howard's
not a dick.
Does he play any music at all? If so, when's the last time he played a band
who wasn't signed to a major label, or one who put out their own recordings,
or a Jazz artist?
Can't say I didn't try....
No one asked ya to.
Why does it not surprise me that Constantpain would be a Howard Stern fan?
the facts that he's a dickhead?.;)
Brat!
No.

marek isnt a man.

<shrug>
cos you're a dickhead?
Nope...that's not it....give it another go?
no, that *is * it, dickhead.....:)
probably. but howerd stern clearly has no taste in music, so he
shouldnt let that bother him.
