We were worn, in need of rest
On a trail treach'rous chancy
Icicles clung from stone crests
The atmosphere was murky
A snow storm struck us off guard
In such details we could die
Impaled by plunging ice shards
Or swallowed in a snow slide
One of my colleagues collapsed
His sentence a certainty
"You'll die if you sleep!" I rasped
But I paused for breath briefly
I felt fabric on my face
A woman knelt beside me
She held me in an embrace
But her touch was brisk, icy
Her garments, gossamery
Her face albescent, aglow
Had she come to rescue me?
She was the Woman of Snow
"My cabin's that way" I said
Managing a vague gesture
She steadfastly shook her head
"The snow is warm," she whispered
Round my neck she gripped tightly
I saw evil in her eyes!
I shoved her off vi'lently
Shrieking, she merged with the sky
I arose to the sun's rays
My lodge was mere yards away
I reposed at the fireplace
And unwound with warm sake'
