Interesting! This is one of the Pinups songs that I never heard the
original of.

Not bad, but I think Bowie wins the prize this time. It's my favorite
song on that album. Really nice arrangement, and Ansley Dunbar's
drumming is annoying to me as it is on the rest of the album

I agree. I also have a good version by The McCoys but Bowie's version is
the best by far. It might be my favorite Bowie song.

Both the McCoys original and the Sorrows remake are far better than Bowie's version.

This song is the first song on the Supremes 4cd box set. They were
called the Primettes then, although they were really Diana Ross and the
Supremes

No, they weren't. They were a 5 person group at the time with Betty McGlown as the 4th singer and guitarist Marvin Tarplin.

So that's Pink Floyd's Sorrow.

What a bunch of pretentious tripe!

The vocal reminds me a bit of Nick Cave, whose much, much superior The
Sorrowful Wife didn't make the cut. For my compilations to work for me,
I need more upbeat songs.

A famous doo wop song, the Nutmegs' "Whispering Sorrow" also didn't make
the cut because it was too slow and draggy. There are already slow and
draggy songs on this compilation so I have to be extra picky,.

It's a bit slow and draggy but it's worth getting.

Thanks for the tip

Pools of Sorrow is a great line

Too Bad About Sorrows is the first song John and Paul wrote together.
Does it exist anywhere?

What about "Everybody's Got Sorrow?" Does it exist anywhere?

Listening with fresh ears this morning, I must say that Whispering
Sorrows is kind of great, despite it being slow. I think I can squeeze
it in somewhere.

In 1970, Ginger Baker's Air Force actually hit #85 US Billboard (#36 US
Country Billboard) with a live recorded version of "Man Of Constant
Sorrow" (first formally published in 1913, by the way):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9LuLHJXbiY (vocals by future Wings dude
Denny Laine).

For a Bluegrass-tinged version, check out the Dan Tyminksi-Ron Block
live performance of "Man Of Constant Sorrow" at the 2007 Clapton
Crossroads concert. Exhibits some excellent flatpicking licks, indeed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8LCYS_85Dk .

My original solo, acoustic, 6-string guitar, quasi Bluegrass-style
breakdown composition I call "Saline Valley Breakdown"--played on a 1976
Martin D-35. Recorded June 17, 2002.

I just heard the first song on the Jefferson Airplane album, After
Bathing at Baxters which has a similar intro to It's All Too Much.
I can't see that It's All Too Much was recorded after because it was
done in 1967.

There's a version with a vocal somewhere. I remember listening to it as
part of my dad's 33 1/3 record collection back in the 50s. I vaguely recall
that Bix Beiderbecke played cornet on it. Couldn't find that version on
YouTube, however.
