Dear friends,

I'm in search for details of George Harrison's participation in
the Delaney & Bonnie & Friends Tour with Eric Clapton December 1969.

There's the following UK tour plan (as printed as tour poster in
Marc Roberty's Clapton book):

Mon. 1st Dec. Royal Albert Hall, London (at 19.30)
Tues. 2nd Dec. Colston Hall, Bristol (at 18.15 & 20.45)
Wed. 3rd Dec. Town Hall, Birmingham (at 18.15 & 20.45)
Thurs. 4th Dec. City Hall, Sheffield (at 18.20 & 20.50)
Fri. 5th Dec. City Hall, Newcastle (at 18.15 & 20.45)
Sat. 6th Dec. Empire Theatre, Liverpool (at 18.45 & 21.00)
Sun. 7th Dec. Fairfield Hall, Croydon (at 18.15 & 20.35)

Reportedly these concerts had some Harrison involvement.
Mark Lewisohn writes, that George visited the 1st Dec. 69
Royal Albert Hall show, and took part in the most of the British shows.
Marc Roberty writes, George joined the tour for the weekend
(maybe 5th, 6th & 7th Dec., both shows each?).

Lewisohn and Roberty's contradict somewhat for that tour.
Harrison's 7th Dec. 69 participation is confirmed by the commercial
released live album "Delany & Bonnie On Tour" (perhaps put together
from both shows?). But what's with the other shows. Has anybody any
confirmed information on which of these UK shows George took part exactly?

The second part of that tour leads Delaney & Bonnie & friends
to Scandinavia, the claims of both authors differs - Lewisohn
(who claims Copenhagen 10th, 11th and 12th Dec. 69)
and Roberty writes only about 2 shows in Copenhagen on 13th Dec. 69.
Both authors are wrong. Because there's a serious article from an
eyewitness of the Copenhagen shows (Arno Guzek from Copenhagen/DK)
which is trustworthy, and from that it is to reconstruct that the
Scandinavia tour plan might look perhaps that way:

Mon. 8th Dec. 69 ???, Stockholm (1 or 2 shows?)
Tues. 9th Dec. 69 Rondo, Gothenberg (1 or 2 shows?)

And confirmed (thanks Arno) are these 2 show:
Wed 10th Dec. 69 Falconer Centre (2 shows, ca. 19.30 & 22.00)

The Swedish dates are underlined in Harrison's autobiography
"I Me Mine": The reprint of the lyrics of the song
"Woman Don't You Cry For Me" show's that it was written on
hotel paper of "Castle Hotel" Stockholm. George claims in that book,
he had written the song in Gothenburg du ring the Delaney & Bonnie tour.

Can anybody give some firm information on that Swedish dates.
Are they correct? What was the name of the club in Stockholm
and were there also 2 shows in each city? Was there maybe also
Swedish tv broadcast of that shows (similar to DK)?

I'm grateful for any help or wink. Thank you!

Ralph

Ralph Weigmann asked about about George Harrison's role in the Delaney &
Bonnie tour in late Dec 1969. I probably can't answer the original
question with any real authority (since I havn't ever really studied the
subject), but since you're interested in George's role in the Delaney &
Bonnie tour, I thought I might draw your attention to an additional song
not available on the 'Delaney & Bonnie On Tour' LP.

It is on disc 1 of the Artifacts III box set. Its called 'Only You Know
And I Know'. It was apparently recorded on Dec 10 1969 at the Falkoner
Theatre in Copenhagen. (Running time:1.22).

Wiener's 'Ultimate Recording Guide' suggests George had played second
guitar at the Bristol Colston Hall show on Dec 2, the Sheffield City Hall
show on Dec 3 and at the Newcastle City Hall show on Dec 4. He also
played at the Liverpool Empire Theatre with Eric Clapton on Dec 5. He
confirms that George and Eric also played at the Croydon Fairfield Hall
on Dec 7 (the version released on the 'Delaney & Bonnie On Tour' LP).
Finally, he reports (with little detail given) that George and Eric
continued with Delaney & Bonnie on their tour to Scandinavia between Dec
10-14...the tour from which the aforementioned track was taken.

Then, I suppose you could include his appearance with Delaney & Bonnie
on Dec 15 at the London Lyceum Ballroom for the UNICEF 'Peace For
Christmas' concert, where, with Billy Preston, Keith Moon and
Clapton, they formed John Lennon's backing band, the 'Plastic Ono
Supergroup', to play 'Cold Turkey' and 'Don't Worry Kyoko'.

Hope that's not all old news. Good research though. All the best.

I'm not sure about the dates in Gothenburg, but the two concerts took place, not in Rondo, but in the Konserthuset, the concert house. I was at both concerts, on the same day, the first at approx 6, and the second around 9, I think.

I've looked into this now, the concerts in Gothenburg were December 14, the Stockholm one December 13.
