Maureen Cox Starkey was born August 4, 1946 in Liverpool. She was only 18
when she married Ringo, who was almost 25 at the time. Theirs is what was
once called a "shotgun" wedding.

She died a painful death from leukemia on December 30, 1994, despite a bone
marrow transplant from her son Zak. Ringo did not offer a marrow
transplant.

How she met Ringo: She was a Cavern groupie and had gone out with Johnny
Guitar from Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, when Ringo was the drummer for
that group. She kissed Paul and Ringo on a dare one night after their show,
which Ringo doesn't recall or perhaps doesn't wish to recall, but he asked
her to dance at the Cavern one night.

The two shared one common but highly unlikely interest, hairdressing.
Believe it or not, Ringo dreamed of opening a string of hairdressing salons.
Not exactly a normal career goal for Mersey rockers of that era. When the
two met, Maureen was working in one.

They were married February 11, 1965 at Caxton Hall, Westminster. They had
been out of contact for some time while she stayed in Liverpool. They were
re-acquainted when Ringo had his tonsils removed, as Maureen was one of
thousands of fans who had requested possession of Ringo's tonsils after they
were surgically removed. Ringo gave them to Maureen.

Attendees at the wedding included: Brian Epstein (best man), parents of the
bride and groom, John and Cynthia Lennon, and George Harrison. Paul
declined to attend. This was during a break between their Christmas Show of
1964, which ended in January, and the recording of the Help! soundtrack
beginning four days later.

Basically, Maureen was a Beatles groupie who was lucky enough to get
pregnant by, and thus become legally involved with, a Beatle early in their
career.

To many, this seemed like a wonderful marriage until one night when, during
a gathering of Ringo, Maureen, and Pattie and George Harrison, George
announced he was in love with Maureen! It was rumored that Maureen and
George had an ongoing affair. As some said at the time, "once a groupie,
always a groupie."

Divorced: July 17, 1975 (Ringo freely admitted adultery with American model
Nancy Andrews)

Later marriages: Isaac Tigrett (millionaire of Hard Rock Cafe fame) on May
27, 1989

Children: Zak on September 13, 1965, Jason on August 19, 1967, and Lee on
November 17, 1970, Augusta b 1987

More Interesting Facts

Ringo did not visit Maureen in the hospital during her terminal illness with
leukemia, nor did he attend her funeral despite her having borne three of
his children.

That's Maureen cheering at the end of Get Back (and when Paul says, "Thanks,
Mo.", he's referring to her).

Ringo went with the other Beatles to hear the Maharishi in Wales in August
1967 despite Maureen's giving birth to Jason at that very moment.

And you know Maureen wanted him there, that they didn't have any

He probably would not have been a match anyway.

News reports said that Ringo and her husband were at her side at the time
of her death.

Where did you get these "facts"?

In fact, husbands and wives are not usually allowed to donate blood to
each other, let alone bone marrow, because the wife becomes sensitized
to the husband's antibodies through body fluid contact. Check with
your local blood service/bone marrow service/ the American Red Cross,
Blood and Marrow Services for details, as TWIAVBP.

I lost a friend recently to leukemia/lymphoma. I wish that my death
will be as peaceful and pain-free as hers was. I *really* wish she
hadn't died, but it is how it is.

Why someone would want to dig up this mishmash of half-truths and
plain malice is beyond me.

I never suggested he was or was not compatible. I merely pointed out that
he didn't even offer to find out. Read more carefully, please.

Because before she started dating Ringo, according to all the Beatles
history books, she only "dated" guys who were members of bands that
performed at the Cavern.

Because Ringo has said in at least one interview over the years that he very
likely wouldn't have married Maureen had she not been pregnant.

Oh I see, you want to portray Maureen as the innocent victim who shares no
responsibility for her affair with George. It takes two to tango, as they
say. You probably aren't old enough yet to understand such things. At
least that's how you come across on this newsgroup.

Peter Brown was close enough to the Beatles to know about such things. Were
you?

Please do so, although you won't be "repeating" anything; you will merely be

I merely pointed out that he wasn't there at the hospital or at the funeral.
That much is a fact. You seem awfully defensive about Ringo's behavior.

Get a grip, pal.

Many women like dating musicians. She was going to the Cavern, the guys she
met were musicians from the Cavern. Seems like a reasonable place to meet
guys. Do you have a citation showing that she refused to date non-musicians?

And as was pointed you, your "fact" is in dispute.

You really should see someone about your hostility toward women, trashing
Maureen and Patti in one week. It's just not fair, they got to marry Beatles
and you didn't, right?

Manipulating facts to make a subject look bad without actually coming out
and saying anything is an old propaganda trick.

See. I just did exactly that. I didn't say the post that started this thread
was manipulative and a distortion of the truth, but someone reading this
thread would get the impression that I did.

John's marriage, as well as Ringo's and Paul's, were shotgun weddings. You
consider that "unimportant". Who cares what you consider important or
unimportant? I know I don't, and I suspect many others here don't. I
merely mentioned it as part of my narrative. What does your opinion of the
facts have to do with anything? Again, you're incredibly defensive about

The fact is you're hell-bent on defending Ringo's behavior no matter what
the facts are....and regardless of whether you have any familiarity with
those facts or not.

Peter Brown said it was a fact. And once again, I strongly suspect that
most of the people on this newsgroup will put more credence in his
statements than in yours, for obvious reasons. You're now falling into that
age-old trap so many people on rmb fall into when they know they're losing
an argument. They start name-calling.

Obviously, you can't "repeat what some have said" about me, because you just
made that up to appear as though you know something. But in fact, you
don't. In short, you're getting desperate....and I suspect you know it.

You should see someone...and soon...about your hostility toward people on
the internet whom you've never met. Calling someone an "asshole" because
they made you look foolish (by pointing out defects in your arguments)
indicates a very immature and defensive person who is easily flustered and
confused when he realizes he is losing an argument.

What's more, calling someone a "mysogist" asshole on the internet, for the
whole world to see, only serves to destroy whatever shred of credibility you
may have once had on this newsgroup. How does it feel?

Peter Brown said it was a fact. And once again, I strongly suspect that

most of the people on this newsgroup will put more credence in his
statements than in yours, for obvious reasons. You're now falling into that
age-old trap so many people on rmb fall into when they know they're losing
an argument. They start name-calling.

Obviously, you can't "repeat what some have said" about me, because you just

don't. In short, you're getting desperate....and I suspect you know it.

Who was holding the gun at Paul's wedding? Although I've not heard any of
the Beatle marriages refered to as "shotgun weddings", it seems extremely
unlikely in Paul and Linda's case (while perhaps more plausible for John and
Ringos first marriages). Are there some book passages that make reference to
these or is this your own opinion/theory?

Where are the facts showing that Ringo didn't offer to be tested for
compatability for a bone marrow transpant? The fact that he didn't provide
a transplant doesn't necessarily translate into a fact of him not offering
or even being compatible.

Your criticizing Tom for defending Ringo while it would appear that you are
verbally attacking Ringo (with little hard evidence to back it up).

Another poster refuted that statement and claimed that both Ringo and
Maureens husband were bedside when she passed away. Hard to say, without
some type of proof (newspaper article, interview, etc) who is right.

What seems evident to me is that you are intent on attacking Ringos
character and are bristling at others attempts to come to his defense.

Desperate for entertainment, perhaps, since I've wasted several minute of my

However, calling someone an asshole when they behave like one is not
uncommon behavior.

Wow, you're really excited about that typo, aren't you?

Why should I care if I have any credibility with you or not? While we're on
the subject, when were you elected spokesman for the newsgroup so you could
make pronouncements about who does or doesn't have credibility?

Now go rant about Dylan. I'm sure the feeling you get when you do so makes

Even if I were unable to spell misogynist, why would that indicate my

Why? Because you clearly like to throw around words that you don't even
understand, let alone are able to spell. You obviously went to a dictionary
after I pointed out your blunder, and now you come back here trying to give
the impression that you always knew how to spell misogynist....that it was
just a "typo" the first time. Uh-uh. There is absolutely no doubt that you
would have pronounced the word as "misogyst" (LOL!!) if you had previously
tried to impress someone by using it in conversation.

I'm not your pal. The use of multiple exclamation marks is a sign that the
writer is unable to communicate his meaning through his words, and you
misspelled "you." You also showed that you're incapable of writing a
